Caseta Weatherproof Outdoor Smart Plug for Landscape and String Lighting, 15-Amp On/Off Switch, Black (PD-15OUT-BL)

Lutron Caseta products are great - all the ones I've used have been well-built and durable. The Weatherproof+ Outdoor Smart Plug is no exception. I have every confidence it will last quite a long time controlling my under-deck lighting. The only issue I have with this product, which includes many other products and manufacturers, is that you must use their product-specific wireless bridge. You cannot connect this directly to WiFi, nor can you use it directly with Samsung SmartThings, Apple Homekit, Home Assistant, etcetera, without the Caseta bridge. This introduces more complexity and cost to your smart home network.

As simple to use as the other Lutron Caseta products – it can be controlled via the Lutron iOS or Android app, and hence by your choice of Smart Home management software (we use AppleHome and Siri.) And it works great! It is nice to get a product that works out of the box the first time, without having to troubleshoot anything. The physical unit has holes to mount to the wall adjacent to your landscape lighting transformer (note that each cord is only about 6” long, so you need to make sure that you have space next to your transformer. It acts as a switch, so you can use a “dumb” transformer that will be turned on or off by the Caseta “outdoor plug”. And it appears both rugged and waterproof (rated IP65.) It says that it can operate from -20deg C (-4deg F) to 50deg C (122deg F), so probably fine unless you are in the Arctic or Death Valley! And it can switch up to 15A at 120V, so 1,800W, wayyy more than any landscape lighting would need. Once you connect it to power, you can “add” it to your Lutron app, by tapping the gear wheel icon, selecting “Add Device”, selecting “Outdoor Smart Plug” from the list and then holding down the button on the device util it flashes rapidly. Give it a name, note where it is located and you are done. The next step is to go to the “Schedules” menu and Add a schedule action for when the lights are to be turned on and when they are to be turned off. That’s it! See my screen shots from doing that on my iPhone. And of course once you have added the device in the Lutron App it can be controlled via the Apple Home app (and hence using Siri) as long as you have the Lutron Bridge to connect all your Caseta devices to the rest of your network.

The Lutron Caseta Wireless Outdoor Plug is easy to install. I know that now. I have both over complicated and under complicated this project. I have a mesh Wi-Fi and thought that I could locate this outlet next to one of the nodes and control the device from my phone using my existing network and the Lutron app. Not how it’s done. You need the Caseta bridge. The bridge needs to connect directly to your network’s initial router by one of its LAN ports. In my situation, that router is located in the center of my living area on the bottom floor. You also need to download the correct Lutron App onto your phone. Once you have all the devices and apps and the bridge you’re ready for setup. During setup you got to make sure you are working with the correct network and not your regular Wi-Fi network. Apparently, the Caseta Bridge has a range of 30 feet. My device, the Smart Outlet, for the intended purpose, would be approximately 110’ from where the Bridge needs to be located. I guess you’d say that I’m at an impasse. Interesting that the Outlet Plug is located less than 4’ from my Wi-Fi mesh node. The Caseta Wireless Outdoor Plug is well made and has a manual switch for that just in case event, like the one I’m having. The cords are short but that should not be the issue that it may seem. Scanning the QR code on the Outdoor Plug does nothing but bring up the number that is also printed on the outlet under the QR code. Right now, I have the Outdoor Plug installed for manual operation. I downloaded the wrong app at first but then found the correct one after reading the instructions. Not sure what I’m going to do with the bridge since directions pretty much say that it has to be located where it is located. If I can solve this distance issue set up will be a simple process. I intend to use the Caseta Wireless Outdoor Plug to control a specific circulation fan in my greenhouse. This fan is only used when environmental conditions in my greenhouse are such that they stress my lettuce plants. I can’t have stressed lettuce. This particular fan has a speed control but not a switch, curiously. It will be nice to control this fan from my phone. That means I’ll be able to check the environmental conditions in my greenhouse on my computer and then turn the fan on using my phone sitting comfortably approximately 110’ away. I know there are other ways, but this definitely is the coolest.

Like all Lutron products that I have, this one is well made. From the heavy-duty insulation and strain reliefs at the controller and outlet end to the controller case, it is all well made as you will see in the photos. There are two sets of mounting holes for through or slide-over mounting. It is a breeze to connect to a Pico remote for on/off remote control. The Pico remote is included in the SKU that costs $5 more and that is probably what you should buy if you don’t have a Lutron Smart Bridge. If you buy the 2-button remote later it will cost you more. But the problem is this. At $80, there is no dimming capability as others have noted and if you want the plug to be smarter than just on/off you must buy the Lutron Smart Bridge to connect to Wi-Fi. Lutron Caseta devices are not Z-wave or Zigbee compatible. But I thought there was a good chance that I could use this device with my Wink Hub 2, which supports Lutron Caseta Smart Switches through its built-in Caseta-capable “radio”. That was not the case. I tried several approaches to making the connection including merely telling Wink that this was another smart switch, which is somewhat true. The Wink Hub 2 never did connect. Through several weeks of correspondence with Wink, I finally got an email that said they would consider adding this device to the list of Lutron-supported devices. That would be my goal since I prefer not to have a separate app to control just those devices through another bridge. Until then, I am very impressed with the quality but the description as a “smart” plug is a bit of a stretch until you buy a Lutron Smart Bridge. Even with the inexpensive Pico remote control functionality is limited to manual on/off.

This is a great product. It is a 110v waterproof smart outdoor plug. When it first came in and I took it out-of-the-box I was impressed the weight of the product and the quality of the build. I was a little skeptical at first if it would work for me because the fountain that I am trying to control through Google is about 100 feet from my house. (Note: I say 60ft in the video but it is actually 100 feet) After plugging it in and downloading the Lutron app on my phone it worked just fine. I can turn the fountain on from anywhere in my home or outside. Because it is connected to my Google system I can actually turn it on and off from anywhere in the world. The plug comes with two short heavy-duty 3-prong plugs. Depending on what it is that you are attempting to plug-in you may or may not need an extension cord. Even though it is waterproof it is always best to try to keep it out from the weather if possible. If in your yard like mine you may want to cover it up to help shielded from the rain and sun. The device comes with a button on the plug itself so that you can manually turn it on and off if so desired. It works great with its app both with android and iPhone. The plug seamlessly connects to Alexa or Google. NOTE: This product requires a Lutron hub also known as a "repeater" in order to operate with the phone and or Google. You do not need a hub to manually operate the plug or if you connect it to a wifi Lutron switch.

We chose the Lutron Caseta Outdoor Smart Plug for Landscape and String Lighting, with a black case for use on our back deck for the lighting. This is a great product that has a lot of features. You can control your lighting through an app on your phone or even use the switch manually from the box. This is a great starter for the Lutron products, but it can get a little pricey to buy everything you may want depending on how much you want it to do. The material is a great quality and will stand up to all of the weather elements. Once we got it set up, it worked perfectly.

This is a review of the outdoor switch from Lytton. i’ve had other of their products, and they seem to work well and are fairly user-friendly, this is no different than those. This comes with a low profile unit meant for outdoor lighting use, and wirelessly connects to the system and app you use with your voice controlled systems(Alexa, google) . All in all it seems like a quality product and look forward to finding a good use for this item, like outdoor patio lighting.

The Lutron Caseta outdoor smart plug is perfect for our home because our house already has other Lutron Caseta switches and dimmers. We also have a Lutron Caseta wireless smart bridge. The outdoor plug seamlessly connects with our automated home and works by adding it to our HomeKit smart home app. I'm able to turn on outdoor lights either with voice commands or icons in the app. It's black in color. It mounts outdoors with two screws. It works with 15A loads. It is IP-65 rated so it resists the elements well. I am pleased with its functionality.

I have trouble with my outdoor landscape lighting staying on during day due to dusk to dawn feature not working well. I already have several Caseta Wi-Fi controlled devices in my home that have always worked great so I decided to try this Smart Plug to control the landscape lights. Installation only took about 3 minutes to install Smart Plug and maybe 3 minutes to program it since I already had the app installed on my phone. Installation could not be easier. Just plug into power, plug in device to power and program by holding manual power button on Smart Plug until it starts blinking. See picture. It synced up in a few seconds. You can also turn lights on or off manually by pressing the manual button. One thing I really like about the Smart Plug is that it could be moved to another device easily. Just plug it in. I set my landscape lights to turn on at sunrise and off at sunset within the app under “SCHEDULES”. Smart Plugs are rated at 120 volts, 15 amps. They can control up to a ½ HP motor. Smart Plug is a very well made. It is IP65 rated to withstand rain, dust and dirt. Smart Plug can work stand-alone when paired with Picos and Caseta Sensors. Integrates with Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple Homekit and ring. I could not be happier with this device. Only CON is that it does not allow dimming.

Easily integrates into the caseta infrastructure. I plugged my outdoor pond fountains into this so I can use the application or my voice to turn on/off my pond for cleaning. Otherwise I am trying to yank a cable off the wall to do this. There is a button on the front of the housing that allows you to manually turn it on and off. You can also sync the power adapter directly to a pico remote if you do not have a base station. Has easy to mount eye holes so you can neatly tuck it away. Instructions are easy to follow and work exactly as written. Easy to install.
