Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting plastic plant pots, CFLs, lead acid batteries, and rechargeable batteries for recycling.
Home Depot stores sent approximately 5.3 million pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This has helped the planet by preserving over 63,500 trees, keeping over 16,000 trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saving over 50 million gallons of water, and conserving 7.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
We have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores since 2010.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our customers and associates. This commitment extends beyond our stores to the environment and our communities. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Learn more about our eco actions.

Do you carry tall Halloween decorations that talk?
Yes, we carry many types of Halloween decor that make noise and/or move. Our Halloween animatronics bring scary characters to life. Life-like moving creatures will be the talk of the neighborhood. This includes current favorites like Skelly, the 12-foot skeleton, and Dean the Deathologist, a dapper bartender. For more drama, use a fog machine or two to hide the animatronics until they start to roar or cackle.
Why should I get a generator?
Having a generator means you're prepared for whatever circumstances Mother Nature throws at you. Whether dealing with hurricanes, tornados, blizzards, severe thunderstorms, or strong winds, a portable generator lets you enjoy power when the elements knock it out. When exploring different generators for sale, remember that portable generators are more affordable and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're heavier and louder. For safety purposes, always run your generators outside, away from doors and windows.
What home repairs should I make before it gets cold?
Ready your home for winter weather by repairing or replacing broken parts of your hardscaping and home. If water freezes in any crevices, you could be in for major repairs later. On the outside of your home, examine roofing shingles or metal roofing panels for damage or rust that could let water leak in. Clean gutters to prevent ice dams. Check cinder block and brickwork for cracks. Indoors, verify ceiling tiles are free from missing pieces and water damage. Lastly, replace vinyl siding and chimney caps if they're damaged.
What are some storage options for a crowded holiday home?
As you prepare for the holidays, stow unused items to free up space. Garage cabinets keep tools, decorations, and more out of the way. Shoe racks and other storage containers take summer belongings out of the equation. Moving blankets can shield fragile items as they're packed together. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you the right amount of space.
How do I check my Home Depot gift card balance?
Gift cards to The Home Depot are an excellent choice for birthdays, housewarming parties, and the holidays. DIYers know they're fun to receive and to give. You can purchase them at our stores or online at homedepot.com. If you're a recipient, you can visit your local Home Depot store and ask a cashier to check the balance for you or check your gift card balance online. Use our gift cards to shop online or redeem them in-store. There are no additional fees to worry about.
