Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting lead acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, plastic plant pots, and CFLs for recycling.
Home Depot stores sent approximately 5.3 million pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This has helped the planet by preserving over 63,500 trees, keeping over 16,000 trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saving over 50 million gallons of water, and conserving 7.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
Since 2010, we have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our customers and associates. This commitment extends beyond our stores to the environment and our communities. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Learn more about our commitment to economic responsibility.

What are some Halloween ideas that won't scare kids?
To create a fun atmosphere without the frights, find kid-friendly Halloween yard decorations. Halloween inflatables and Halloween doormats are festive solutions that aren't as spooky as many other outdoor Halloween decorations. Remember to update your decor as your kids grow older and braver.
Should I get a portable generator or an inverter generator?
Having a generator means you're prepared for any circumstances Mother Nature throws at you. Whether you're dealing with hurricanes, tornados, severe thunderstorms, snowstorms or strong winds, a portable generator lets you enjoy electricity after the elements knock it out. When searching generators for sale, remember that portable generators cost less and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're louder and heavier. Always run your generators outside, away from windows and doors, for safety purposes.
Should I do siding repairs before it gets cold?
Make sure your home is ready for cold weather by replacing or repairing faulty parts of your hardscaping and home. If water freezes in any crevices, you could headed for major repairs later. Check cinder blocks and brickwork for cracks, and verify indoor ceiling tiles are free from water damage and missing pieces. On the outside of your home, examine roof shingles or metal roofing panels for damage or rust that could let water leak into your home. Gutters should be clear to prevent ice dams. Lastly, chimney caps and vinyl siding should be changed out if they're in poor condition.
How can I make more space for the holidays?
As you prepare for the holidays, give yourself extra space in the house and stow away the rest. Garage cabinets keep decorations, tools, and more out of the way. Shoe racks and other storage bins take summer belongings out of the equation. Moving blankets shield fragile items as they're packed together. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you the space you've been waiting for.
How do I check my Home Depot gift card balance?
Home Depot gift cards are a popular choice for birthdays, housewarming parties, and the holidays. DIYers know these gift cards are fun to receive and to give. You can purchase them online at homedepot.com or in our stores. If you're a recipient, you can check your gift card balance online or visit the Ray Road Home Depot and ask a cashier to check the balance for you. Redeem our gift cards for online or in-store shopping, all with no additional fees.
