Q:As a follow up to the question about the ring height, how do you recommend propping it up so that it is level with the top of the pit?

      Answer This Question

A:  Absolutely. Add a few lava rocks underneath. Looks great this way.

      by|Jan 2, 2019

A:  In our install instructions we explain that a granular material be used to fill in the bottom of the fire pit and the ring is to sit on this base. The base allows for moisture drainage from the pit as well as props up the ring.

Product was well protected for shipping. Arrived undamaged. Construction was easy and straight forward and only took about an hour to construct by applying landscaping adhesive. Only draw back is heavy amount of efflorescence on the stones that form the bottom two layers of the fire pit. This will require some attention when the weather warms up a bit. Other than that a great product for the price.

Fire pit is well made and ships with 2 extra cap-stones. Ship to store was great and product was very well secured. Take a trailer, it’s heavy. Poured a 1/2 ring of concrete in order to support being partially on patio and partially off. Get the pit level, that’s the key to having a solid build. Used 3 tubes of premium construction adhesive (didn’t glue bottom layer to concrete, no need). Added 12 bags of red lava rock (inside ring) and 5 bags of pea pebbles between ring and blocks. Some reviews have pointed out the gray cement from the block forms but that’s to be expected with pre-formed blocks. I added a little mortar (used a grout bag) along all the seams of the blocks and the cap-stones (with a slight tint to match blocks). This helps to add character as well as cover any blemishes. This is a much bigger pit than those you see setup in the store. With a little work, this pit is solid and looks great. Considerably less expensive than contacting a contractor. It’s a fire pit, have some fun and add some creativity, make it your own!!!!

We've had the fire pit for two years now. I was a little concerned when we bought it that some of the stones would be broken but they were all intact when we received the kit. The kit was easy to install and looks great. Would definitely recommend it.

Great looking fire pit if you don't look too close
Received the fire pit components on a pallet on time by Etes trucking company. We were able to assemble it in about two hours on a 70x70 concrete pad that we had poured about 4 days before. Alligning everything and picking out which blocks we wanted on the first and second rows based on how they looked took a little time, but we all know how our wives are about things like that. As indicated we received two extra blocks for the top in case there was shipping damage. There wasn't any damage but some of them looked better than others due to pin head size holes across some of the surfaces. We ended up using twelve 50lb bags of gravel, much more than we expected, but you can see how that looks in the attached picture. Will definitely be enough to protect the concrete pad and the stones on the sides. The only complaint we had was that some of the stones in the first and second row really need some touch up so they don't look like cinder blocks. You can see that in the picture. A spray of some kind that you could use to cover the gray cinder blocks to make it all brown would really help the final look of the fire pit. Over all we are very pleased with how the final product looks and will be having our first fires in it this weekend in the Poconos.

              Bring on the S'mores
Ordered this online and picked up at HD. It was on a pallet and was loaded right on the back of the truck – it weighs approx. 1600 pounds, plus with the pebbles it was a heavy load, so make sure your truck can carry it or make a few trips. The customer service girl and the loader were great at the Anderson, SC HD. My husband and I finished the fire pit last weekend. Due to the slope of our yard and the extra seating area we wanted, it ended up taking about 16 hours – start to finish. If you have a flat surface and are just doing the firepit, it would probably take less than 4 hours. We also live in SC, which means hard clay ground that we had to dig and get flat. We used HD pea pebbles and HD drainage rock for under, and in, the firepit. For the seating area we put a paver type ring on the edge of the circle using HD 10 x7.5” Rumblestone paver in Café (pea pebbles and paver sand went under the pavers). On one side, due to the slight slope, we built a short retaining type wall, by using the cement adhesive to glue 5 layers of pavers. We also poured cement powder around the outside edge of the circle and sprayed with water to lock in the pavers. The pavers do not move. We put landscape cloth down and added 50 bags of pea pebbles (had to make 2 trips back to HD) – If you are using pea gravel/pebbles for a seating area, I would definitely recommend have a gravel company deliver a load. Our total pit area ended up being about 18 ft. diameter (pit itself is about 6 ½ and we had approx 5 ½ feet for seating. Initially, we had less than that, but thought the Adirondack chairs we had ordered would look too cramped. We got our chairs yesterday, and they fit perfectly in the space we allotted leaving some room to walk behind or in front. The pics have the temporary seats and are just a bit smaller than an Adirondack chair. As others have mentioned, some of the stones were not really painted well. All of the caps looked like the paint starts ½” from the bottom. Being the perfectionist that I am, I don’t like it. But, as my husband says - it should all kind of blend in once the pit gets some use. I do think there should be a bit better quality check on the cap stones. Some are thicker than the others, and you really have to do some adjusting to try and get them level. The capstones also have somewhat of a peachy color to them - they're not the same color as the blocks. But, again, hopefully age will blend it all in. Overall, I am very happy with the firepit and hope to use it for many years to come…time for the S’mores.

              Great purchase
I ordered the pit online and it arrived at the store on a skid. You will need either a pickup truck or will need to take a couple of trips. The stone wall comprises of 24 decorative stone blocks comparable in size/weight to a normal cinder block. Then there are 14 stone caps (2 extra). So there is a lot of weight here when transporting it. Building it is very simple and took my time to make sure I didn't cut any corners. Just follow the video instructions given on the HD site. Digging and leveling the base took the majority of the time due to some trial and error. No biggie. It called for 6 cubic feet of stone/gravel overall. I used 9 cubic feet in all and used pea gravel. Now comes the real work - building some landscape around the pit. This pit is sturdy and should hold up over time. Happy with my purchase.

              Easy to Install
We are happy with the look and ease of installation. As noted in a few of the other reviews some of the gray color is visible (we purchased brown) from the back and sides of the stones but we figure it isn't supposed to be perfect so that doesn't bother us much. Other than that it fit right in and we put it to use right away. I completed it in about 2.5 hours taking my time; checking, rechecking, positioning stones, etc.

              Good value for $$$
My husband bought/built this firepit last week--it turned out beautifully and works great! It did take him several hours to get it 'just right' so that the top stones fit on nicely. He used almost three tubes of adhesive and many bags of pea gravel to complete. We had our first fire in it two nights ago; the larger size looks great and allows for lots of neighbors to sit around and enjoy. The finishing of the stones could certainly be improved (why I did not rate a 5 on quality)--once assembled, you can still see some 'unfinished' concrete at the edges of the blocks. However, I'm hoping this will be less visible as the firepit weathers over time. Overall, we love our firepit and look forward to many years of use!
