What is the difference between a hammer drill and a rotary hammer?

A hammer drill operates like a traditional drill with a linear percussive action, making it very effective at drilling for masonry projects. On the other hand, rotary hammers create the same hammering motion with a position driven by a crankshaft, producing an even more hammering action. The rotary hammer is heavier and is recommended for professional construction work involving harder concrete. For a light-duty job for soft concrete or brick, a hammer drill is suggested.
