Reasons to Upgrade

There are many reasons to choose to upgrade the flooring in your home. Whether you want a fresh design or new flooring that’s low maintenance, we’ve got you covered. Our hard surface flooring options are a hassle-free way to reinvent your favorite spaces. We offer four popular hard surface flooring designs:
- Laminate: This style is constructed of a surface layer of 2 thin sheets of paper impregnated with melamine. Laminate flooring simulates wood with a photographic applique layer under a clear protective layer. The inner core is typically composed of melamine resin and fiberboard materials.
- Vinyl: Another synthetic option, vinyl flooring is durable, wallet-friendly and easy to install. Vinyl sheet floors come in large, continuous flexible sheets. The surface layer is resistant to water. Vinyl planks come in interlocking strips that make installation a breeze.
- Engineered wood: Made from layers of hardwood and plywood, engineered wood flooring is great in high-moisture environments. Engineered wood flooring can be finished to resemble many popular types of traditional hardwood flooring.
- Hardwood: The original, timeless material for hard surface flooring. Hardwood flooring is a classic choice, manufactured from timber and designed to be used as long-term flooring. It comes in various styles, colors and cuts to match your style.
Why Choose The Home Depot

The Home Depot offers an extensive selection of hard surface flooring. Solid hardwood, engineered wood, laminate and vinyl plank flooring options are available at your local store, and they come in a variety of colors, styles and customizations that are water resistant and waterproof.
Our flooring is installed by trusted, badged installers who are fully vetted and background checked by The Home Depot.
The Measure Appointment

Once you've selected your flooring, our team will schedule an in-home measure appointment. During this appointment, a Home Depot professional will arrive to measure the room(s) where your flooring will be installed.
To prepare, homeowners are advised to move furniture away from the walls and create a clear path to the area. Measure appointments can be booked in-store, online, or via phone at 1-800-MEASURE.
Next Steps

Once your home has been measured, one of our flooring specialists will contact you to review your quote and process payment. We will then schedule your installation at a time and date convenient to you.
Solid hardwood and certain types of laminate flooring must acclimate to your home prior to installation, so the flooring will be delivered a few days before the installation appointment.
Preparing for Installation

The installation area in your home must be clear of all furniture and wall decor. All electronics should also be unplugged. As a courtesy, our professionals can remove larger pieces of furniture, like sofas, dressers and tables. If the item requires disassembly – such as a bedframe – an additional fee may apply. Please note, The Home Depot will not remove oversized or fragile items from the installation area, so homeowners should make alternate moving arrangements as needed.
The flooring will be delivered to your home a few days before the installation appointment. Once it has been delivered, you can re-confirm the installation details with your Home Depot service provider. To confirm your appointment, call 1-800-HOME-DEPOT (1-800-466-3337).
Tip: If your home was built before 1978, The Home Depot also recommends testing for lead paint. Lead-based paint is toxic to humans and pets, and it can lead to various health problems, especially in young children.
During the Installation

As a homeowner, you can expect the installation process to create a certain amount of noise and debris. The Home Depot strongly recommends keeping children and pets in another area of the home while our team lays the flooring.
Removal and Post-Installation Care

When your hard surface flooring installation is complete, our professionals will clean up the excess debris and remove the old flooring from your home. These services are included in the installation cost. To keep your floors looking their best, we recommend regular cleanings following the best practices for your particular flooring.
Knowing what to expect during your hard surface flooring installation helps keep the process effortless. We work hard from start to finish to provide you with the very best hard surface flooring installation process available. Ready to start your installation process?
