Use What You Have

Paint pens make creating a monogram easy, but if you don't have any on hand, acrylic paint and a fine tip paint brush will work too.
Some other options to decorate a recipe box include using leftover wallpaper to cover the box or making your own stamps from potatoes to add patterns to the box.
Most projects will involve a ruler, but you may also need a craft knife, scissors and glue.
Find the Midpoint

To create a monogram, start by finding the midpoint on the lid of the box. Use a pencil or chalk pencil to make the mark.
Make a Rough Outline

Draw in the letter with the chalk pencil and to half circles that will border the monogram.
Fill in

Fill in the design with the paint pens. Fill in any outlines and add a flourish at the ends of the letter.
Optional Lettering

You can add optional lettering on the side of the box so it’s decorative from two angles.
Gift

Fill it with your family’s favorite recipes. It’s ready to give to someone special.
