Prep Your Workspace

Properly cover your work space with a drop cloth and remove anything from the area you don’t wish to get paint on.
Disassemble the Piece

Remove any shelves, drawers, doors or items that can be painted separately.
Remove Hardware

- Using a screwdriver (or drill) remove all hardware. This includes anything you don’t wish to paint or those that would be in the way while painting, such as, hinges, knobs, handles, pegs, magnetic closures and metal embellishments.
- Put all of these pieces together in a safe place so you don't lose them.
Prep for Painting

- Shake and apply liquid sandpaper in circular motions onto the surface of the furniture piece. Use protective gloves and goggles for safety.
- Apply several layers if needed to strip a sealer or gloss from your piece so the new paint can adhere.
- If you find that parts of your furniture piece needs a stronger sanding, use an electric orbital sander to smooth out the area and degloss the surface.
- Fill any unwanted holes with wood putty, let dry and smooth the surface with sandpaper.
- Completely wipe down the furniture piece using a tack cloth to remove any unwanted residue and debris.
- Raise small items, such as, shelves and drawers with reusable cups to avoid them sticking to the drop cloth and overall have a smoother paint finish.
Prime Your Furniture

- Prime the entire surface to be painted using bin zinsser primer. For the larger areas use a 4-inch paint roller and for the smaller, hard to get corners use a paint brush.
- Depending on the original color of your furniture piece, you may need to apply two coats of primer.
- Let dry for 1 hour.
Paint

- Paint the entire surface with Behr Marquee Paint in your desired paint color & finish using a combination of a paint roller and paint brush for the corners.
- Pictured here: Behr Marquee in color Sanderling with a Satin finish
- Two coats are recommended for full coverage.
- Let dry overnight for 24 hours or more.
Seal

- Apply varathane polyurethane sealer (water-based) in your desired finish to the entire furniture piece using and foam roller and foam brush for the corners.
- Apply in thin layers and don’t overload your roller and brush in order to avoid streaking and dripping.
- Apply quickly while sealing as polyurethane tends to dry faster than paint and smooth out any build up and drips as you go.
- Apply multiple coats if more surface durability is needed.
- Let dry for several hours.
Attach New Handles (Optional)

- Position, measure and mark where new holes need to be drilled in order to attach the new handles.
- Create new holes using a power drill and appropriate size drill bit.
- Attach new handles with screws provided.
Reassemble

Reassemble the furniture piece with original hardware using a screwdriver or drill.
