Have Fun with Color

The most common colors of Hanukkah are blue, white and silver, so you can easily mix in dinnerware and cutlery that you already have. Add tablecloths, napkins and tablerunners in different shades of blue to mix things up.
Baby blue, royal blue, navy and turquoise can be used with white or mixed together.
Another idea is to tie a royal blue ribbon around each dining chair for a sophisticated and unexpected detail.
Switch Out Decor

Although it only comes once a year, Hanukkah is a special time to gather with family and celebrate. If you're really into decorating, you can switch out statement pieces in your decor.
For example, store your farm chairs for the season and bring out velvet seating in bold blue. Hang holiday artwork or swap out the throw pillows on your sofa with some that speak to the holiday.
Bake Themed Treats

A great way to get kids in on the holiday is to bake up delicious treats. While gelt and doughnuts are traditional, a few Hanukkah cookies could carry you through all eight nights.
If you don't have a lot of time, turn cookie decorating into a group activity after your dinner. Purchase premade dough, sprinkles, decorations and frosting. A few nights before your dinner, cut out and bake the cookies. Store in an airtight container. On the day of your dinner, arrange the frosting, frosting tips and decorating sprinkles on a tray. Then, after dinner, turn up the holiday tunes and invite everyone into the kitchen to decorate cookies together.
Craft Homemade Decorations

Another fun way to get the family into the celebration is to craft homemade decorations. One easy project for kids of all ages is to make a Star of David from craft sticks.
Here's what you'll need:
- 6 craft sticks or paint mixers for each star
- Paint brushes
- Blue paint
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Glitter
- Craft glue
- Monofilament or ornament hook for hanging
For each star, paint craft sticks. Apply several coats if needed and be sure to paint both sides. When dry, attach three sticks together with hot glue to form a triangle. Repeat with the other three sticks.
Let sit for a couple minutes, then turn one of the triangles upside down so the point is facing down. Attach the triangle to the second triangle to form a star. If desired, apply glitter with craft glue and let dry. Hang with monofilament or an ornament hook.
Craft a Menorah from Nature

Menorahs are available in a variety of shapes and styles, and many families get creative with their choices. Add the beauty of nature to your holiday tablescape by creating a menorah from a tree limb or branch. This project adds a rustic yet elegant touch to typical holiday decor.
You'll need:
- Tree branch at least 14 inches long
- Drill
and 3/8"-diameter drill bit or bit the size of the candles - Craft or acrylic paint
- Paint brush or rag
- Menorah candles
Begin by finding a tree branch for your menorah. Look for one that curves upward but is also sturdy enough to support candles without wobbling. Using a pencil or permanent marker, mark nine holes on the branch, evenly spaced at least 1-1/2 inches apart. Use the drill and a 3/8 bit to drill 1/2-inch deep holes.
If your candles are more than 3/8-inch in diameter, adjust your drill bit to match.
Use the paint brush to lightly brush or a rag to lightly rub the entire branch with craft paint. Let dry.
Arrange your tablescape with a tablecloth or tablerunner, place the menorah down the center and decorate as desired.
Your DIY menorah can make a lovely centerpiece.
