Barkitecture: Cat Tree

Our furry friends are part of the family and if you have a pet, you know their accessories aren't always the cutest. That’s why I love the trend of Barkitecture so much. It brings the function of pet decor and the beauty of interior design together to create beautiful pieces of furniture for your furry friends.
For my Barkitecture project I decided to create a cat tree with a fluted wood detail I found at The Home Depot. Fluted furniture is very trendy right now and it was fun to make a cat tree that both my cat and I can enjoy. I love how Barkitecture is all about creating beautiful pieces for your furry family members, without disturbing the interior aesthetic.

What aspect of your living space gives the best first impression? Many of us would say the kitchen, bathroom or living room. I would agree with all three of these, as they are highly impactful spaces in a home. But, when you think about the very first experience we have when entering someone’s home, it’s their entryway! My entryway needed some modernization and Barkitecture elements. Feeding two large pups requires a lot of food, and a place to hide that food and their bowls. We already fed the dogs in the entryway, but their bowls and food container would sit there exposed. What an eyesore! Barkitecture to the rescue.
My goal with this project was to make the entryway a multipurpose space. By adding a base cabinet, raising the closet pole higher and utilizing the toe kick, we transformed our tiny entryway into something that’s fool proof in keeping us organized while also incorporating the livelihood of our pups. The area is now an entryway, dog feeding station, coat closet, a place to hang my purse and a place to drop and hide our mail, all the while tying in harmoniously with the rest of our home. We love it and our pups love it too!
Limitless Luxe: Bedroom Update

We’re all spending more time at home these days, which means we need our homes to feel comfortable and welcoming, with a splash of luxe. Let’s face it, we miss traveling! Why not create a space in your home that gives you the luxurious feel of a much-needed vacation? I wanted our bedroom to feel like a charming European bed and breakfast, so I went straight to The Home Depot’s site to shop for ways to add touches of limitless luxe.
I started with the bedding! Nothing is more charming and cozy than a good mix of texture and pattern, so I opted for a colorful patchwork quilt and paired it with a checked duvet cover and striped velvet copper shams. Then I added a vintage-inspired distressed rug. Rugs always add warmth and dimension to a room! I found great lamps for bedside lighting and then started the fun part—styling!
Bedrooms are a great place to get personal. The Home Depot has a great assortment of frames for your special photos, and I was blown away by the selection of stylish accessories. Rustic vases, decorative boxes, plaid throws, brass jacks—you name it, they’ve got it! And our space is now styled to perfection.
Biophilic Design: Plant Wall

Creator: Jenna Pilant
Human beings are a deeply social species whose security and productivity depends on positive interactions within a community, and the past few years have challenged our human nature. Thus, bringing Mother Earth into our home now is more important than ever before.
Biophilic design is the practice of creating a closer connection to nature through design. Biophilia means a love of nature, so biophilic design uses natural resources to create a sense of harmony, fostering positive and sustainable interactions and relationships among our world and the natural world.
Your own Biophilic oasis at home can include:
- Sustainable indoor plants and/or trees. Create a greenery work of art with a vertical wall garden (like I did!)
- Fresh Air. Open the windows, breathe in the fresh air, and allow the sound of nature find its way into your mind.
- Maximize natural light. Let in the sunshine, keep those blinds open and add a skylight where/if you can.
- The sound of water. Sure, there are apps and sound machines but how about a water fountain?
- Paint colors of nature. No hues are more grounding than brown, blue and green. Try including BEHR Brown Mustard, BEHR Perfect Sky or BEHR Secret Meadow in your home.
For my own Biophilic design I opted to create wall art with Pathos plants using one of the many wall planter options available at The Home Depot. Once the best area for natural light was determined, I neurotically obsessed over the walls measurements to determine the location of each wall planter, as visually, objects being square and plum make (or break) the success of an install, especially wall art!
Next, once all the wall anchors are secured in place, it was time to get to planting those Pathos, making sure to gently loosen their roots from their original home as I planted them into the wall planters. Then top off with a little more indoor plant soil and hang! How rad is that? The only kicker being I had to do it 76 more times to create this awesome plant wall!
Biophilic Design: Blooming Tablescape

Creator: Stephanie of Casa Watkins Living
Plants can be more than home decor; they can also be used to design and create an amazing tablescape! I used blooming plants and small plant arrangements in ceramic planter pots to create a plant theme runner perfect for anyone looking to infuse biophilic design into their home.
Jute placemats paired with melamine botanical print plates create a beautiful place setting. Natural items like wooden leaf-shaped bowls and wooden utensils compliment the fresh plant vibes on the table. Botanical print trays and vibrant napkins add special touches to the buffet table. Increase the impact of your room by adding large floor plants around the room for a gorgeous plant oasis.
Curve Appeal: Arched Accent Wall

Creator: Stacey-Ann of Design Addict Mom
The curved trend is very hot for 2022 and we’re seeing curvy furniture and accessories spike in popularity. Though I am not one to one to hop on a trend bandwagon, I am a big fan of the curved trend and think it will be around for a long time. I recently added a bit of the curve trend to a tiny work from home space that I carved out in a dormer. I painted an arch in a BEHR contrasting color and I love how it turned out!
