A Note From The Home Depot
This rolling garment rack is just as attractive as it is practical.
Ben Uyeda, of HomeMade Modern, used ordinary copper pipe that you’ll find in The Home Depot’s plumbing department, plywood and glue to make the garment rack. To make it even more practical, he added casters at the bottom to make it easy to move around.

Step 1: Cut the Plywood
I had the nice Home Depot associates rip a 4 ft. by 8 ft. sheet of plywood into three 16 in. wide strips and then cut those strips to 48 in. Not only does this save me the time, it also makes it easier to fit the wood in my car.
I then cut 24 strips that are 4 in. wide and 16 in. long with my circular saw. The most efficient way cut the plywood would be as shown in the diagram below.
Step 2: Sand the Plywood
I clamped the pieces of plywood together and then sanded the edges with my orbital sander.
Step 3: Drill Holes
I marked the center of the 4 in. x 16 in. pieces of plywood and then drilled a ⅝ in. diameter hole just big enough for ½ in. diameter pipe directly in the center.
I then used the first piece I drilled to line up and mark the holes to be drilled in the other pieces.
I drilled holes in the 4 in. x 16 in. and in the top piece of plywood that is 42 in. x 16 in.
Step 4: Assemble the Base
I screwed the pieces of plywood together starting with top piece and making sure to keep the holes aligned. By starting with the top piece upside down I make sure that screws wont show when the garment rack is finished.
Step 5: Cut the Pipes
I used my tube cutter to cut the pieces of ½ in. copper pipe and then used gorilla glue to glue the pipe fittings together.
I then placed the pipes in the plywood holes.
Step 6: Add Wheels
The garment rack works fine sitting flat on the floor, but I added some metal casters to the bottom of the rack so that it is easier to move.
