Movie Night
In Florida we don’t get the wintery weather that’s perfect for building snowmen and sled riding, but we still want to make the holidays special for our kids. This year, instead of decorating the front of our house, we chose to turn our backyard into a winter wonderland for unforgettable outdoor movie nights under the stars. Come along with us as we share how we made our backyard sparkle with holiday cheer using holiday decor from The Home Depot.
The Clean Up

To begin our backyard transformation, we got to work cleaning everything up. Our Ryobi pressure washer makes clean up a breeze. We used it to wash away all the dirt and grime from the pavers on our pool deck. Here’s a tip to make things go faster: rent a surface cleaner attachment from The Home Depot. This made our cleaning job much quicker and way easier.
Once our backyard was clean, we started planning. We mapped out the layout for our outdoor movie nights. We decided where to put the projector screen and where the seating would be coziest. We made sure we had power sources in the right places and were mindful of safety by planning to keep all powered decor at least 10 feet away from the swimming pool.
The Lights

Our first step is always to hang up all the lights before we add any decorations. Instead of using a traditional ladder we used the slim-fold work platform from Gorilla ladders. It was so much easier than having to move a ladder every couple of feet as you hung the lights across. We found a great selection of lights at The Home Depot. To brighten up the gazebo and daybed, we used a mix of weeping willow string lights and icicle lights. For the icicle lights, we used cup hooks to hang them. The inside of the gazebo is made of concrete so cup hooks wouldn't work there. Instead, we used Command outdoor light clips to hang the weeping willow string lights inside the gazebo. To complete the lighting, we added Philips hanging starburst battery operated lights on one side of the gazebo.
Yard Décor

After that, we put together the yard decorations. We're big fans of the Home Accents Holiday collections. From the Polar Wishes collection, we set up the nativity scene, reindeer, sleigh, and snowman. And from the Yuletide Lane collection, we placed the stacked gift boxes and Santa.
We also wanted beautiful outdoor trees and we found these stunning white Winter Spruce LED trees by Home Accents Holiday. We put one in the yard and another one under the gazebo. These trees shine so brightly and look absolutely breathtaking at night.

Now, let's talk about the inflatables. Our kids are crazy about inflatable decorations, and we were thrilled to find that Home Accents Holiday offered an African American version of inflatable Santa. We also added Rudolph and an animated dog inside a gift box inflatable to our festive lineup.
Movie Night
Lastly, no outdoor movie night is complete without a projector and screen. We opted for the Monster Vision LCD projector kit, which comes with a 120-inch screen and stand. We used a Hampton Bay garden stool as a table for the projector.

We gathered under the Christmas lights, watched Frosty the Snowman, enjoyed hot cocoa and created memories that will last a lifetime. Our backyard transformation proves that even in the Sunshine State, the magic of Christmas can be felt. We hope you can bring some holiday cheer to your own backyard this holiday season. Merry Christmas and happy holidays!
