Holiday Bake-Off Preparation
The best part about the holidays is spending time with family! One of our family traditions we love to do during the holidays is bake cookies. We usually like to make it extra fun by having a bake-off amongst each other, but this year we’ve decided to extend it to a few family friends for some friendly competition, so it’s time to get ready!
To prepare, I picked up some items at HomeDepot.com. A KitchenAid mixer is a baker’s staple and has been on my wish list for years now, so I made sure to grab one of those. Of course, we went with red! We were also in need of a new toaster oven, so I picked up an ARIA air fryer toaster oven which gives us so many options to cook so many different things. It’s also perfect for cookies as I can make small batches. I also love that it’s a quicker option for baking.
Before we start baking, we like to check out a few recipes online to see if we want to try something new. So, naturally we asked Alexa on our Echo Show 5.
We ended up going with a sugar cookie recipe along with our favorite chocolate chip recipe with a twist. After gathering our ingredients, we had a blast whipping up a delicious batch of sugar cookies and double chocolate chip Snicker cookies!
If you’re interested in trying out our double chocolate chip Snicker cookies, see the recipe below.
INGREDIENTS
One 1/2 cup Gold Medal all-purpose flour
One teaspoon of baking soda
1/2 teaspoon of salt
1/2 cup (one stick) of butter at room temperature -unsalted if you have it
1/2 cup of brown sugar
Six tablespoons of granulated sugar
One egg
One teaspoon of vanilla extract
One cup of Ghirardelli semi-sweet chocolate chips
One cup of Ghirardelli milk chocolate chips
Two Snickers candy bars chopped
DIRECTIONS
Set the Aria air fryer toaster oven to the bake setting at 350 degrees. In one bowl, mix your flour, baking soda and salt together and sit to the side. In another bowl, beat your butter and sugar together with a mixer until smooth. Just make sure the butter is nice and soft at room temperature. Add the vanilla and egg until fully mixed in. Add your flour mixture to the wet mixture a little at a time until fully mixed – DON’T OVERMIX. Fold in the chocolate chips. Put your dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to an hour to chill. Use a cookie scooper to place the dough on a baking pan (use parchment paper). Add chopped Snickers in the middle of the cookies. Bake cookies for six to seven minutes or just until the edges of the cookies get lightly browned (Aria air fryer toaster oven). If you’re using a traditional oven, bake for 10-11 minutes. Remove from the oven and transfer to a wire rack to cool. EAT & ENJOY!
Remember, a holiday bake-off is not just about winning. It’s about all the fun you have during the process!
