How To Refresh Your Outdoor Patio

Last updated August 21, 2024

We are Molly and Dylan from the YouTube channel Woodbrew. We build all kinds of things, from DIY furniture, milling our own lumber on our sawmill to home renovation projects. As much as we love our shop, we equally love being outside where we are creating our dream oasis!

The leaves are falling, the temperature is dropping, and the weekends are made for grilling out with friends and family. It’s time for a back patio refresh!
This is what we are working with, not bad, but it’s lacking that cozy, inviting feel. Time to head to The Home Depot for some much-needed supplies and decor.

All of those summer rain storms have made quite the mess! Let’s start by blowing the patio off using the cordless Ryobi Leaf Blower to get rid of all the dirt and leaves.

Then, using a little soap and warm water, we cleaned all the cushions from our outdoor sectional and chairs with a sponge.

While those dry in the sun, it is time to move all the furniture off the patio and start pressure washing! The Ryobi electric pressure washer is so nice to have because of the quick setup and you don’t have to fumble with any gas. Pressure washing is so therapeutic, play some of your favorite tunes and watch the transformation happen.

While the patio dried, we headed to The Home Depot to get seasonal flowers. Mums are our favorite and they always have a great selection...we are going to need a bigger buggy! Flowersare such an easy way to completely change the vibe and bring some emotions to a space. These neutral fall colored mums are perfect for that cozy, inviting feel we are going for.

Did you know The Home Depot has an even larger selection of items online that can be shipped directly to your home? We have started utilizing this and Home Depot’s in-store pickup option for the last few projects and have found some amazing items, like these beautiful metal lanterns with battery lit candles and the Hampton Bay Amber Grove Brown Wicker Aluminum Frame Outdoor Accent Trunk Table. We ordered and picked up in-store the Hampton Bay Summerfield Square Steel Gas Fire Pit and love it so much! Every patio should have some sort of fire pit and this one even doubles as a table for our sectional sofa.
After rearranging the furniture for a fresh new feel, I went to work decorating the space. The new side table worked great between our existing chairs and after adding one of the lanterns and mums, the area already feels much cozier.

Looking at our neglected patio, this new refresh makes us so happy! We are always blown away by how a simple cleaning, rearranging, and a few new items can transform a space. This cold and dirty space now feels warm and welcoming.
Before you go, we built this DIY grill station over on our YouTube channel using inexpensive materials from the Home Depot too.
