Doer, creator, DIYer and new mother Monica Chavez of House of Esperanza can do it all. Someone who originally looked to DIY hobbies as an escape, it has now turned into a full-time job with her husband.
A Note From The Home Depot
Who doesn’t love an extended weekend to relax and enjoy the company of your loved ones. This year, Monica Chavez and her family get to enjoy their Labor Day gathered around the grill on their new DIY outdoor kitchen patio. Check out the details below on how Monica was able to transform their traditional backyard patio into a built-in BBQ Kitchen with the help of The Home Depot.

I cannot believe our backyard has an entire cooking area now! After wanting an outdoor kitchen for years, we finally built the one of our dreams.

With help from
The Home Depot
and their many
delivery options, I was able to easily source all of the supplies I needed to build this project from scratch.
Since I was going to be attempting this entire endeavor mostly on my own, having the large heavy items delivered was a huge muscle saver for me.
Even loading 14
cement bags was a breeze by using the curbside
pick up
where the kind associates loaded it all up for me. You can catch all of the details for this build
here, from start to finish,
including details on how I made these DIY friendly concrete countertops

I was meticulous in planning the layout so that it fit our needs and would last us many years to come.
The
Traeger
Pellet Grill and Smoker
is incredibly versatile and provides a multitude of cooking options.
Incorporating a mobile
griddle
that we could easily stow away allows us to have
more
space when we need it.

Built in shelving also provides plenty of storage for all of the outdoor cooking
accessories. Countertop space was a necessity and I was able to customize the size and look of ours by creating our own concrete counters.
Accurately figuring out square footage for materials needed was easy with the use of
The Home Depot’s countertop calculator.Tackling the counters in segments made the project manageable and totally
DIYable.
I never thought concrete countertops would be this doable and now I want to incorporate them everywhere.

Another non-negotiable was a seating peninsula that could double as a buffet counter to hold food for gatherings.
Finishing off the horizontal cedar planks in my favorite
black exterior stain
gives the kitchen a modern feel to it.
It’s
exactly what I envisioned at the start of the project and I couldn’t be happier.
