Planning Your Kitchen Renovation With The Home Depot

Planning a kitchen renovation can feel overwhelming (trust me, I know). But, taking the time to plan your big project before hitting the ground running is super helpful in the long run! So, to help get you started, I’m sharing some planning tips to keep in mind when planning your big kitchen renovation project with The Home Depot!
Step 1: Layout & Planning

First step in any kitchen renovation is making decisions about the layout. If you’re keeping things the way that they are, then you can move onto tackling the design! But, if you’re looking to change things up, you may want to add a plumber, electrician, and licensed contractor to your close contacts list, as they may need to reroute or rewire your kitchen configuration.

Once your layout is set, it’s time to set the mood! Laying out your design ideas into a single document with coordinating colors and photos of inspirational spaces is a great way to start planning the vibe of your kitchen!
Step 2: Calculating How Much Material You Need

Once you’ve figured out the layout of your kitchen it’s time to do some math (did I mention this was my least favorite subject in school)? Luckily, The Home Depot has a wide range of project calculatorson their website to help you figure out how much material you’ll need to order for your kitchen project!

Another awesome tool that you can use to help plan your kitchen is The Home Depot’s countertop design tool! Here you can enter your dimensions for your counters, choose your material based on style or price, and then choose your design options before committing to a countertop!
Step 3: Ordering Your Items

Now that you’ve done your planning and measuring, it’s time to order your products! For me, when organizing a major project, spreadsheets are a must. I like to create a document which breaks down my materials into organized lists with SKU numbers, quantities, prices, and links. I also like to keep a column open for marking which items have been ordered and which items have been received.

In addition to my spreadsheet, I love to create shopping listson The Home Depot’s website for easy organization and access! For kitchen makeovers, I break these down into titles such as “cabinets” or “furniture”, and then I'm off to shop.
Hope these tips and tools come in handy on your next project! Be sure to follow my kitchen renovation on @DIYHuntress. Stay tuned as I share my process for tiling, cabinets and the final reveal. You won't want to miss it!
