Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting rechargeable batteries, plastic plant pots, CFLs, and lead acid batteries for recycling.
Home Depot stores sent approximately 5.3 million pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This helped the planet by preserving over 63,500 trees, keeping over 16,000 trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saving over 50 million gallons of water, and conserving 7.8 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
We have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores since 2010.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our associates and customers. This commitment extends beyond our stores to the environment, as well as our local communities. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Learn more about our commitment to economic responsibility.

Do I need a generator?
Having a generator means you're prepared year-round for whatever circumstances life throws at you. Whether you're dealing with blizzards, severe thunderstorms, hurricanes, tornados, or strong winds, a portable generator lets you enjoy power when the elements take it out. When browsing generators for sale, keep in mind that portable generators cost less and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're louder and heavier. Always run your generators outdoors, away from windows and doors, for safety purposes.
Why should I repair my roof before the cold sets in?
Make sure your home is ready for winter weather by repairing or replacing faulty parts of your home and hardscaping. If water freezes in the crevices, you could be looking at trouble. On the outside of your home, examine roofing shingles or metal roofing panels for damage or rust that could let water in. Gutters should be cleaned to prevent ice dams. Check cinder block and bricks for cracks. Indoors, verify ceiling tiles are free from missing pieces and water damage. Lastly, swap chimney caps and vinyl siding if damaged.
How can I make more space for the holidays?
As you prepare for the holidays, stow unused items to free up space. Garage cabinets keep tools, decorations, and more out of the way. Shield fragile items with moving blankets. Shoe storage and other storage bins take summer belongings out of the equation. If you need even more room, a new shed can give you plenty of it.
