Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting lead acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, plastic plant pots, and CFLs for recycling.
Our stores sent approximately 5.3M pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This has helped the planet by preserving over 63.5K trees. It kept over 16K trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saved over 50M gallons of water, and conserved 7.8M kilowatt hours of electricity.
We have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores since 2010.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our associates and customers, and this commitment extends beyond our stores to our communities and the environment. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Learn more about our eco actions.

Is it good to have a generator at home?
Having a generator means you're prepared year-round for any circumstances Mother Nature throws at you. Whether dealing with hurricanes, tornados, or strong winds, a portable generator lets you enjoy power when the elements knock it out. When exploring different generators for sale, don't forget that portable generators cost less and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're heavier and louder. For safety purposes, always run your generators outdoors, away from doors and windows.
How can I prepare my home for fluctuating spring temperatures?
Make sure your home is ready for spring temperature swings by repairing or replacing faulty parts of your hardscaping and home. If water freezes in any crevices, you could have problems. Check cinder block and brick for cracks, and verify indoor ceiling tiles are free from water damage and missing pieces. On the outside of your home, examine metal roofing panels or roofing shingles for rust or damage that could let water in. Gutters should be clear and functional to prevent ice dams if you're still prone to ice storms and snow. Lastly, change vinyl siding and chimney caps if in poor condition.
What benefits do doorbell cameras have?
Enjoy peace of mind, safety, and privacy with a wired or wireless doorbell camera. No more peeking through a peephole or window when you can see visitors in real time. Some doorbell cams even let you chat remotely via your phone, which is useful for delivery people or to scare off potential porch pirates. Many cameras integrate with your smart home app or hub to give you flexible accessibility. Save video clips for future reference and worry less with more control.
