Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting lead acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, plastic plant pots, and CFLs for recycling.
Our stores sent approximately 5.3M pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This helped the planet by preserving over 63.5K trees. It kept over 16K trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saved over 50M gallons of water, and conserved 7.8M kilowatt hours of electricity.
Since 2010, we have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our customers and associates, and this commitment extends beyond our stores to the environment and our local communities. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our eco actions.

Should I get an inverter generator or a portable generator?
We've got the options you need when searching for a generator for sale. Inverter generators are quieter and cleaner than traditional portable generators. They'll adjust to the required load, making less noise when they create less power. When browsing generators for sale, keep in mind that portable generators cost less and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're heavier and louder. For safety purposes, always run your generators outdoors, away from windows and doors.
Why should I repair my roof before spring severe weather arrives?
Ready your home for spring temperature swings by replacing or repairing faulty parts of your hardscaping and home. If water freezes in the crevices, you could headed for major repairs later. Check bricks and cinder block for cracks, and ensure indoor ceiling tiles are free from missing pieces and water damage. On the outside of your home, examine shingles or metal roofs for damage or rust that could let water in. Clean gutters to prevent ice dams if you're prone to frozen precip as the seasons change. Lastly, change chimney caps and vinyl siding if in poor condition.
What are the benefits of doorbell cameras?
Enjoy safety, privacy, and peace of mind with a wired or wireless doorbell camera. No more peeking through a window or peephole when you can watch visitors in real time. Some doorbell cams even let you talk to whoever is on your doorstep via your phone, which is useful to scare off potential porch pirates or talk to delivery people. Several cameras integrate with your smart home hub or app to give you flexible accessibility. Save video clips for future reference and worry less with more control.
