The Home Depot Rental Center at Hilo

Tool Rental
Kick off your next DIY project with confidence and the correct tools for the job. Let The Home Depot Hilo Tool Rental Center fill in the gaps in your toolbelt with the tools you don't have on hand. Rent a tool and return it when you're done. If it turns out the rental tools would be more useful than you thought, ask about purchasing used tools. The retired rental tools are discounted compared to the new items in our aisles.

Make Painting Easier with Paint Sprayers and Rental Scaffolding
Make the most of warmer weather to paint outdoors. Rent paint sprayers to get professional coverage fast and make surfaces look new again. Scaffolding rentals help you reach high areas when painting fences, houses, and sheds. We carry extension ladders and step ladders for medium or smaller jobs, so you won't have to wait when you're ready to work.

Tame the Lawn and Greenery Early
Lighten the load with outdoor power equipment rentals and whip the yard into shape again. Neaten the lawn and bushes with hedge trimmers and rental lawn mowers, and get that sidewalk clean again with a pressure washer rental. Your outdoor oasis will be ready for new spring flowers before you know it.

Truck and Cargo Van Rentals
For your transport needs, we keep trucks of all kinds ready to rent. Although availability varies by store, we've got a selection ranging from pickup trucks to cargo vans to flatbeds. You're sure to find the right size for your project so you can keep your timeline running smoothly. As your trusted source for DIY projects, storage needs, and packing, it's simple to make us your go-to source for truck rental as well.

Box Truck and Penske Moving Truck Rentals
If it's time to relocate to a new home, let us help with that as well. Explore our rental box trucks. We also offer Penske moving trucks ranging from 12-foot to 26-foot lengths, but as always, availability varies from one store to the next. Box trucks have different sizes and rental requirements than Penske moving trucks, so check our FAQ or speak to an associate to make sure you choose the right rental truck for you.

Large Equipment Rentals
Handle expansive projects with professional equipment. Our large equipment rentals give you the power you need. From the boom and scissor lifts to give you a boost to the mini skid steers and mini excavators capable of hauling materials on outdoor job sites, we've got a surprising variety of equipment available. If a large equipment rental could help you, explore our selection to see what we've got in stock.

Although we're calling out specific tool, large equipment, and truck rentals, not everything is available at every rental center. If you've got a particular item in mind, please contact your local rental center to see where you can pick it up.

Frequently Asked Questions about Rentals

How do I rent large equipment, tools, or trucks?

Stop by the Rental Center at your nearest Home Depot to see what tools and trucks are up for rent. If you'd like confirmation before you drive there, call first to inquire about a truck, tool, or large equipment. You may also read our tool and equipment rental or truck rental pages to see if what you need is carried at your store. For more details on renting large equipment or tools, read our Tool Rental FAQs, including equipment terms and conditions.

Can I rent large equipment or a tool by the hour?

Tool rentals and large equipment rentals start at four hour time slots. It depends on how long you'd like to rent them. Small DIY jobs may only require a rental for a few hours, and bigger jobs can also be accommodated. You've got options to rent tools by the day, week, or month, too. If you need it longer than anticipated, call the Rental Center for an extension and avoid late fees.

When do I return the tools?

You can return the tools early if you finish your project faster than planned, but on-time works, too. As long as you return it by the deadline you were given when you rented it, you'll be good to go. Please clean off any grime and dust from the tool as well. If you need them longer, give the rental center a call to see if you can extend your rental period.

How long can I rent a truck?

Rent a truck or cargo van for as long as you need it. For short trips, 75 minutes could be enough time. Otherwise, consider renting it by the week or the day, depending on the length of your project. Remember to factor in the drive between the job site and the store, as you must return it to the same store where you rented it. Penske moving truck rentals allow round-trip options as well as one-way options, and they have different terms. Be sure to read the documentation before you select a truck.

Do I need to refill the rental truck with gas?

Yes, please fill up the truck before you return it. Match the level of gas that was in the tank when you received the rental. If you don't, you'll be hit with a penalty known as the fuel replacement charge.

Do I just need a driver's license to rent a truck or large equipment?

No, you must hold a valid driver's license and be 21 or older. Depending on your state, you might require car insurance, as well as a deposit or credit card hold, too. We don't accept cash for Home Depot truck rentals, so please bring your credit card. Penske moving truck rentals have different requirements, so read those if you plan to rent a Penske truck. Select tools as well as large equipment also require ID verification via CLEAR.

Do I need to go get my large equipment rental from the store?

Depending on your location, you can get large equipment delivered and removed from your job site for a reasonable cost — whether that's at your home or out in the field. You'll need to rent it for one day or longer and provide us with 24 hours notice so we can prepare your rental delivery for you. Speak to an associate for the best way to get your large equipment.

What are some ways to avoid penalties and extra fees on rented large equipment?

Think of your rented large equipment as any other vehicle: Make sure you obey traffic laws and it's parked legally. Read the manual so you're using it correctly to avoid injuring yourself or damaging the equipment. Also, plan ahead to ensure the equipment is ready when you are, as cancelling within 12 hours of delivery means you'll incur a cancellation fee. Make sure to return equipment by the deadline or extend the rental period to accommodate the extra hours or days you require.
