Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting rechargeable batteries, plastic plant pots, CFLs, and lead acid batteries for recycling.
Our stores sent approximately 5.3M pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This helped the planet by preserving over 63.5K trees. It kept over 16K trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saved over 50M gallons of water, and conserved 7.8M kilowatt hours of electricity.
Since 2010, we have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our associates and customers, and this commitment extends beyond our stores to our local communities and the environment. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our eco actions.

Do I need a generator?
Having a generator means you're prepared for whatever circumstances Mother Nature throws at you. Whether you're dealing with snowstorms, thunderstorms, tornados, hurricanes, or strong winds, a portable generator lets you enjoy electricity when the elements knock it out. When considering different generators for sale, don't forget that portable generators cost less and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're heavier and louder. Always run your generators outdoors, away from windows and doors, for safety purposes.
How can I prepare my home for fluctuating spring temperatures?
Make sure your home is ready for spring temperature swings by replacing or repairing broken parts of your home and hardscaping. If water freezes in the crevices, you could be in for a real headache. Check cinder blocks and brick for cracks, and verify indoor ceiling tiles are free from water damage and missing pieces. On the outside of your home, examine roofing shingles or metal roofing panels for damage or rust that could let water leak into your home. Gutters should be clear to prevent ice dams if you're prone to frozen precip as the seasons change. Lastly, chimney caps and vinyl siding should be replaced if in poor condition.
Do you have doorbell cameras?
Enjoy safety, privacy, and peace of mind with a wireless or wired doorbell camera. No more peeking through the peephole or a nearby window when you can watch animal or human visitors in real time. Some doorbell cams even let you talk to whoever is on your doorstep via your phone, which is useful to scare off potential porch pirates or talk to delivery people. Most cameras integrate with your smart home hub or app to give you easy and flexible accessibility. Choose to save video clips for future reference as needed and worry less with more control.
