Take on any new home improvement project with the right tools for the job — even if you don't have them on hand. Rent the tools, use them, and bring them back when you're done. Complete your project without taking up garage or shed storage with tools you rarely use.
Tool Rental
The Home Depot Industry Tool Rental Center helps you handle bigger DIY projects. You won't be limited by only what you have on hand or have to settle for untrustworthy hand-me-down tools. Complete your project confidently and safely by renting quality tools. If your local store doesn't have the tool in stock, it could be available at another one within driving distance.
Make Painting Easier with Rental Scaffolding and Ladders
Take advantage of warmer weather to paint outdoors. Rent paint sprayers to get professional coverage and work much faster than you would with a brush or roller and a paint tray. Scaffolding rentals help you reach high locations when painting fences, houses, and sheds. We carry step ladders and extension ladders for medium or smaller jobs, so you won't have to wait when you're ready to get that job done.
Tame the Bushes and Lawn Early
Greet the spring with outdoor power equipment rentals and whip the yard into shape again. Neaten the yard with a rental lawn mower and leaf blower, the trees and hedges with a chainsaw rental, and the sidewalks with a pressure washer. Your outdoor oasis will be refreshed and ready for new spring flowers in no time.
Truck and Cargo Van Rentals
To meet your transport needs, we keep trucks of all kinds ready to rent. Although availability varies by store, we've got a selection ranging from flatbeds to pickups to cargo vans. Choose the correct size for your DIY project so you can keep your timeline running smoothly. As your trusted source for DIY projects, packing, and storage needs, it's smart to make us your source for truck rental as well.
Box Truck Rentals
When you need a 12-foot box truck for a small move, we've got just what you need. It's a great solution for cross-town moves. Use it for transporting extra belongings to a storage space as well. Get your truck, pack it full, then return it to that same store when you're done.
Penske Moving Trucks
You trust us with your DIY projects. Do the same when it's time to move into a new house, apartment, or condo. We offer Penske moving trucks in sizes ranging from 12 feet to 26 feet. Use our trucks to haul all your belongings — from a dorm to a city apartment to a 3-bedroom home, and anything in between.
Large Equipment Rentals
Handle massive projects with pro equipment. Our large equipment rentals give you the power you need to finish the job. From the scissor lifts to give you a boost to the mini skid steers and excavators for hauling materials, we've got an expansive variety of equipment available. If a large equipment rental could help you, explore and see what we've got in stock.
Although we're calling out popular truck, tool, and large equipment rentals, not everything is available at every rental center. If you've got a particular tool in mind, please contact your local rental center to see where you can pick it up.
How do I rent a piece of large equipment, a tool, or a truck?
Stop by your local Rental Center to see what trucks or tools you can rent. If you'd like confirmation before you drive there, call first to inquire about a tool, truck, or large equipment. You may also read our truck rental or tool and equipment rental pages to see if what you need is available at your store. For more on renting large equipment or tools, read our Tool Rental FAQs, which includes equipment terms and conditions.
Can I rent large equipment or a tool for an hour?
You can rent a tool or large equipment for four hours or more. Simply choose the length of time that suits you. Small DIY projects may only require a rental for a few hours, and major projects aren't a problem either. You've got options to rent tools by the day, month, or week, too. If you need it longer than your initial rental period, call the Rental Center to arrange an extension and avoid late fees.
When can I bring the tools back?
You can return the tools early if you complete your project faster than planned, but on-time works, too. Just make sure to bring them back by the deadline listed on your rental paperwork. Please clean off dust, mud, and grime from the tool as well. If you need the tools longer, call your rental center to see if you can extend your rental period.
Can I choose how long to rent a truck?
Rent a cargo van, box truck, or flatbed truck for as long as you need it. For short trips, 75 minutes might be plenty. Otherwise, consider renting it by the week or the day, depending on how long your project is. Don't forget to factor in the drive between the store and the job site, as you must return it to the same store you rented it from. Penske moving truck rentals allow one-way rentals as well as round-trip options, and they have different terms. Be sure to read the provided documentation before selecting a truck.
Should I refill the rental truck before I bring it back?
Yes, please fuel up the truck before you return it. Make a note of the amount of gas in the tank when you receive the truck, and fill it with enough gas to match that level. When you don't refill the rental truck, you'll have to pay a penalty known as the fuel replacement charge.
Can I rent large equipment or a truck with only a driver's license?
No, you also need to be 21 or older, in addition to holding a valid driver's license. Depending on your state, you may require car insurance, as well as a deposit or credit card hold, too. Please bring your credit card for Home Depot truck rentals, as we don't accept cash. Penske moving truck rentals have different requirements. Large equipment or select tools also require ID verification via CLEAR.
Do I need to go get my rented large equipment from the store?
Depending on your location, you may be able to get large equipment delivered and removed from your job site for an affordable rate — whether that's out in the field or at your own home. We'll need at least 24 hours notice so we can adequately prepare your rented equipment and you'll need to rent it for a full day. In places where delivery isn't available, speak to an associate for the ideal way to get your large equipment.
How do I avoid penalties and extra fees on rented large equipment?
Treat your large equipment rentals as any other vehicle: Make sure it's parked legally and you obey traffic laws. Read the operator's manual so you're using it correctly to avoid injuring yourself or damaging the equipment. Also, plan ahead to ensure the equipment is ready when you are. If you cancel within 12 hours of your scheduled delivery, you'll pay a cancellation fee. Make sure to return equipment by the deadline or extend the rental period to accommodate the extra time you require.
