Take on any home improvement project with the tools you need — even if you don't have them on hand. Rent the tools, use them, and return them when you're done. You're free to finish your project without cluttering up shed or garage storage with tools you rarely use.
Tool Rental
Using The Home Depot Tool Rental Center in Lakewood, CA lets you do larger DIY projects. No more old hand-me-down tools that limit what you can do. Rent quality tools to complete your project confidently and safely. If your local store doesn't have the tool you need in stock, try checking another one within driving distance.
Add Insulation When the Weather is Cooler
To make your home more energy efficient, update your insulation in the spring, if possible — before it gets dangerously hot in your attic. Rent specialized equipment for insulation to get it installed correctly. Choose from a cellulose insulation blower or a fiberglass blower, and get those nooks and crannies insulated with ease. Installing insulation keeps your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter, all while tempering your heating and cooling bills.
Tame the Lawn and Bushes Early
Lighten the load with outdoor power equipment rentals and whip the yard into shape again. Neaten around the garden and shrubs with trimmers and rental lawn mowers, and get that sidewalk and driveway clean again with a pressure washer rental. Your outdoor oasis will be looking fresh and ready for new spring flowers before you know it.

From cargo vans and pickup trucks to box trucks and Penske moving trucks, we've got the transportation you need. You're sure to find the correct size for your DIY project so you can keep your job on track. Rent a truck to check off more DIY jobs from your list. Check with your local rental center for availability, as it changes.
Large Equipment Rentals
Complete massive projects with the right pro power equipment. Our large equipment rentals give you the power you need to finish the job yourself. From the scissor lifts and boom lifts to give you a boost to the mini skid steers for hauling materials, we've got a surprising variety of equipment available. If a large equipment rental could help you, explore our selection to see what we've got in stock.
Although we're mentioning popular truck, tool, and large equipment rentals, our rental center may not have everything on hand for your required time frame. If you've got a particular tool in mind, please contact your local rental center to see where you can pick it up.
How do I rent large equipment, trucks, or tools?
Stop by the Rental Center at your nearest Home Depot to see which trucks or tools you can rent. If you want to be sure of what's in stock, call first to inquire about a tool, truck, or large equipment. You can also check out our tool and equipment rental or truck rental pages to see if what you need is in stock at your store. For more details on renting large equipment or tools, read our Tool Rental FAQs, including terms and conditions for the equipment.
Can I rent a tool or large equipment for a month?
You can rent a tool or large equipment for four hours or more. Simply choose the length of time that suits you. Small DIY projects may only require a short rental period, and we can accommodate large projects as well. You've got options to rent tools by the day, week, or month, too. If you need it longer than your initial rental period, call your Rental Center to arrange an extension and avoid late fees.
When can I bring the tools back?
You're welcome to return the tools early if you finish your project sooner than predicted, but on-time works, too. As long as you return it by the deadline you were given when you rented it, you'll be good to go. Please clean off dust, mud, and grime from the tool as well. If you need the tools longer, give the rental center a call to see if you can extend your rental period.
Can I rent a truck for a week?
Rent a truck or cargo van for as long as you need it. For short trips, 75 minutes may be enough time. Otherwise, consider renting it by the day or the week, depending on the length of your project. Be sure to factor in the drive to and from the store, as you must return it to the same store you rented it from. Penske moving truck rentals allow one-way rentals as well as round-trip options, and they have different terms. Be sure to read the contract and terms and conditions before choosing a vehicle.
Should I refill the rental truck before I bring it back?
Yes, please fill up the truck before you bring it back. Note the original fuel level when you receive the truck, and be sure to fill it with enough gas to match that same level. When you don't refill the truck, you'll be hit with a penalty known as the fuel replacement charge.
Can I rent large equipment or a truck with only a driver's license?
No, you must hold a valid driver's license and be over the age of 21. Depending on your state, you might require car insurance, as well as a deposit or credit card hold, too. Please bring your credit card for Home Depot truck rentals, as we don't accept cash. Penske moving truck rentals have different requirements, so read those if you plan to rent a Penske truck. Large equipment or select tools also require ID verification via CLEAR.
Do I need to pick up my large equipment rental from the store?
Depending on your location, you can get large equipment delivered straight to your job site for an affordable rate — at your home or out in the field. We'll need at least 24 hours notice so we can prepare your rental delivery for you and you'll need to rent it for a full day. In places where delivery isn't available, speak to an associate for the ideal way to get your large equipment.
How do I avoid penalties and extra fees on rented large equipment?
Treat your rented large equipment as any other vehicle: Make sure you obey traffic laws and it's parked legally. Read the operator's manual so you're using it correctly to avoid injuring yourself or damaging the equipment. Also, plan ahead to ensure the equipment is ready when you are. If you cancel within 12 hours of your scheduled delivery, you'll pay a cancellation fee. Make sure to return equipment by the deadline or extend the rental period to accommodate the extra hours or days you require.
