Tool Rental
Kick off your next DIY project with confidence and the correct tools for the job. Let The Home Depot Tool Rental Center in Montrose expand your toolbelt with the items you don't have on hand. You can rent the tools you need and bring them back when you're done. In fact, if you found the tools so useful that you didn't want to return them, ask about purchasing used tools. The retired rental tools are discounted compared to the new items in our aisles.
Make Painting Easier with Rental Scaffolding and Paint Sprayers
Take advantage of longer spring days and paint outdoors. Rent paint sprayers to get optimal coverage fast and renew surfaces. Rent ladders and scaffolding to reach elevated surfaces when painting fences, houses, and sheds. We carry step ladders and extension ladders for medium or smaller jobs, so you won't have to wait when inspiration strikes.
Tame the Lawn and Trees Early
Greet the spring with outdoor power equipment rentals and whip the yard into shape again. Neaten the yard with a rental lawn mower and leaf blower, the trees and hedges with a chainsaw rental, and the sidewalks with a rental pressure washer. Your outdoor oasis will be ready for new spring flowers in no time.

How do I rent trucks, tools, or large equipment?
Stop by the Rental Center at your nearest Home Depot to see what tools and trucks are up for rent. If you want confirmation before you drive there, call first to inquire about a truck, tool, or large equipment. You could also visit our truck rental or tool and equipment rental pages to see if what you need is carried at your store. For more details on renting large equipment or tools, read our Tool Rental FAQs, including terms and conditions for the equipment.
Can I rent a tool or large equipment for a day?
Tool rentals and large equipment rentals start at four hour time slots. Simply choose the length of time that suits you. Small DIY projects may only require a short rental period, and long-term jobs are no problem. You've got options to rent tools by the day, month, or week, too. If you need it longer than your initial rental period, call your Rental Center to arrange an extension and avoid late fees.
When do I return the tools?
It's fine to return the tools early if you complete your project ahead of schedule, but on-time works, too. As long as you return it by the deadline you were given when you rented it, you'll be good to go. Please clean off dust, mud, and grime from the tool as well. If you need it longer, call the rental center to see if you can extend your rental period.
How long can I rent a truck?
Rent a cargo van, box truck, or pickup truck for as long as you need it. For short trips, 75 minutes could be plenty. Otherwise, consider renting it by the week or the day, depending on how long your project is. Be sure to factor in the drive between the job site and the store, as you'll need to return it to the same store you rented it from. Penske moving truck rentals allow round-trip options as well as one-way options, and they have different terms. Be sure to read the terms and conditions before selecting a truck.
Do I need to refill the rental truck with gas?
Yes, please fuel up the truck before you return it. Match the level of gas that was in the tank when you received the rental. If you don't, you'll be hit with a penalty known as the fuel replacement charge.
Do I just need a driver's license to rent a truck or large equipment?
No, you must hold a valid driver's license and be over the age of 21. Depending on your state, you might require car insurance, as well as a deposit or credit card hold, too. Please bring your credit card for Home Depot truck rentals, as we don't accept cash. Penske moving truck rentals have different requirements, so read those if you plan to rent a Penske truck. Select tools as well as large equipment also require ID verification via CLEAR.
How do I receive my large equipment rental?
Depending on your location, you can get large equipment dropped off and picked up from your job site for an affordable rate — whether that's out in the field or at your own home. We'll need at least 24 hours notice so we can prepare your rental delivery for you and you'll need to rent it for a full day. Speak to an associate for the best way to get your large equipment.
How do I avoid penalties and extra fees on rented large equipment?
Treat your large equipment rentals as any other vehicle: Make sure it's parked legally and you obey traffic laws. Read the manual so you're using it correctly to avoid injuring yourself or damaging the equipment. Also, plan ahead to ensure the equipment is ready when you are. If you cancel within 12 hours of your scheduled delivery, you'll pay a cancellation fee. Make sure to return equipment by the deadline or extend the rental period to accommodate the extra hours or days you require.
