Use our trucks to haul all your belongings — from a dorm to a city apartment to a 3-bedroom home, and anything in between. Although we're calling out specific large equipment, tool, and truck rentals, our rental center may not have everything on hand for your required time frame. If you've got a particular piece of equipment in mind, please contact your local rental center to see where you can pick it up.

Frequently Asked Questions about Rentals

How do I rent tools, trucks, or large equipment?

Stop by the Rental Center at your nearest Home Depot to see what trucks and tools are up for rent. If you'd like confirmation before you drive there, call first to inquire about a tool, truck, or large equipment. You might also read our tool and equipment rental or truck rental pages to see if what you need is in stock at your favorite store. For more info on renting large equipment or tools, read these Tool Rental FAQs, including terms and conditions for the equipment.

How long can I rent tools or large equipment?

You can rent a tool or large equipment for four hours or more. Simply choose the length of time that suits you. Small home improvement jobs may only require a short rental period, and long-term projects can also be accommodated. You've got options to rent large equipment and tools by the month, week, or day, too. If you need it longer than your initial rental period, call your Rental Center to arrange an extension and avoid late fees.

When do I bring the tools back?

You're welcome to return the tools early if you complete your project faster than planned, but on-time works, too. As long as you return it by the deadline you were given when you rented it, you'll be good to go. Please clean off dust, mud, and grime from the tool as well. If you need them longer, call your rental center to see if you can extend your rental period.

Can I rent a truck for a few hours?

Rent a box truck, cargo van, or flatbed truck for as long as you need it. For short trips, 75 minutes may be enough time. Otherwise, consider renting it by the week or the day, depending on how long your project is. Remember to factor in the drive to and from the store, as you must return it to the same store you rented it from. Penske moving truck rentals allow round-trip options as well as one-way options, and they have different terms. Be sure to read the contract before you choose a truck.

Do I need to refuel the rental truck when I'm done?

Yes, please fill up the truck before you return it. Make a note of the fuel level when you receive the truck, and fill it with enough gas to match that level. If you don't, you'll have to pay a penalty known as the fuel replacement charge.

Do I just need a driver's license to rent a truck or large equipment?

No, you must hold a valid driver's license and be 21 or older. Depending on your state, you may require car insurance, as well as a credit card hold or a deposit, too. We don't accept cash for Home Depot truck rentals, so please bring your credit card. Penske moving truck rentals have different requirements. Large equipment or select tools also require ID verification via CLEAR.

How do I receive my large equipment rental?

Depending on your location, you can get large equipment delivered to your job site for a reasonable cost — whether that's at your home or out in the field. You'll need to rent it for one day or longer and provide us with 24 hours notice so we can adequately prepare your rented large equipment. In places where delivery isn't available, speak to an associate for the ideal way to get your large equipment.

What are some ways to avoid penalties and extra fees on rented large equipment?

Think of your rented large equipment as any other vehicle: Make sure it's parked legally and you obey traffic laws. Read the instructions so you're using it correctly to avoid injuring yourself or damaging the equipment. Also, plan ahead to ensure the equipment is ready when you are, as cancelling within 12 hours of delivery means you'll incur a cancellation fee. Extend your rental period if you need extra time so you won't get charged a late fee.
