Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting rechargeable batteries, plastic plant pots, CFLs, and lead acid batteries for recycling.
Our stores sent approximately 5.3M pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This has helped the planet by preserving over 63.5K trees. It kept over 16K trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saved over 50M gallons of water, and conserved 7.8M kilowatt hours of electricity.
We have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores since 2010.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our customers and associates. This commitment extends beyond our stores to our communities and the environment. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our eco actions.

Is it good to have a generator at home?
Having a generator means you're prepared for whatever circumstances life throws at you. Whether dealing with hurricanes, tornados, snowstorms, thunderstorms, or strong winds, a portable generator lets you enjoy power after the elements take it out. When browsing generators for sale, don't forget that portable generators cost less and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're louder and heavier. For safety purposes, always run your generators outside, away from windows and doors.
How can I prepare my home for fluctuating spring temperatures?
Make sure your home is ready for spring temperatures swings and storms by replacing any broken parts of your home and hardscaping. If water freezes in any crevices, you could be in for a real headache. On the outside of your home, examine metal roofs or roof shingles for rust or damage that could let water in. Gutters should be cleaned to prevent ice dams if you're prone to frozen precip as the seasons change. Check cinder blocks and brickwork for cracks, and ensure indoor ceiling tiles are free from water damage and missing pieces. Lastly, replace chimney caps and vinyl siding if they're damaged.
What benefits do doorbell cameras have?
Enjoy safety, privacy, and peace of mind with a wired or wireless doorbell camera. No more peeking through a window or peephole when you can watch visitors in real time. Some doorbell cams even let you chat remotely via your phone, which is useful for delivery people or to scare off would-be porch pirates. Most cameras integrate with your smart home hub or app to give you easy accessibility. Choose to save video clips for future reference as needed and worry less with more control.
