To meet your transport needs, we keep trucks of all kinds ready to rent. Although availability varies by store, we've got a selection ranging from cargo vans to flatbeds to pickups. You're sure to find the right size for your project so you can keep your job on track. As your trusted source for packing, DIY projects, and storage needs, it's easy to make us your source for truck rental as well.
Box Truck Rentals
When you need a 12-foot box truck for a small move, we've got just what you need. It's a great solution for cross-town moves. Use it for transporting extra belongings to a storage space as well. Get your truck, pack it full, then return it to that same store when you're done.

Although we're calling out popular large equipment, tool, and truck rentals, not everything is available at every rental center. If you've got a particular piece of equipment in mind, please contact your local rental center to see where you can pick it up.
How do I rent trucks, tools, or large equipment?
Stop by the Rental Center at your nearest Home Depot to see what's available. If you'd like to be sure of what's in stock, call first to inquire about a tool, truck, or large equipment. You can also visit our truck rental or tool and equipment rental pages to see if what you need is carried at your favorite store. For more details on renting large equipment or tools, read these Tool Rental FAQs, including terms and conditions for the equipment.
How long can I rent tools or large equipment?
Tool rentals and large equipment rentals start at four hour time slots. It depends on how long you'd like to rent them. Small DIY jobs may only require a rental that's a few hours long, and we can accommodate large projects as well. You've got options to rent tools by the week, day, or month, too. If you need it longer than what you signed up for, call the Rental Center to arrange an extension and avoid late fees.
When do I return the tools?
You're welcome to return the tools early if you complete your project ahead of schedule, but on-time works, too. As long as you return it by the deadline you were given when you rented it, you'll be good to go. Please clean off mud and grime from the tool as well. If you need the tools longer, call the rental center to see if you can extend your rental period.
Can I rent a truck for a few hours?
Rent a cargo van, box truck, or pickup truck for as long as you need it. For short trips, 75 minutes may be enough time. Otherwise, consider renting it by the week or the day, depending on how long your project is. Be sure to factor in the drive to and from the store, as you must bring it back to the same store you rented it from. Penske moving truck rentals allow one-way rentals as well as round-trip options, and they have different terms. Be sure to read the terms and conditions before you decide on a truck.
Do I need to refill the rental truck with gas?
Yes, please fuel up the truck before you return it. Note the original fuel level when you receive the truck, and fill it with enough gas to match that same level. When you don't refill the vehicle, you'll have to pay a penalty known as the fuel replacement charge.
Can I rent a truck or large equipment with only a driver's license?
No, you also need to be 21 or older, in addition to holding a valid driver's license. Depending on your state, you might require car insurance, as well as a credit card hold or a deposit, too. We don't accept cash for Home Depot truck rentals, so please bring your credit card. Penske moving truck rentals have different requirements. Large equipment or select tools also require ID verification via CLEAR.
How do I receive my large equipment rental?
Depending on your location, you may be able to get large equipment delivered and picked up from your job site for a reasonable cost — whether that's at your home or out in the field. We'll need at least 24 hours notice so we can prepare your rental delivery for you and you'll need to rent it for a full day. In places where delivery isn't available, speak to an associate for the ideal way to get your large equipment.
How do I avoid penalties and extra fees on my large equipment rentals?
Think of your large equipment rentals as any other vehicle: Make sure you obey traffic laws and it's parked legally. Read the manual so you're using it correctly to avoid damaging the equipment or injuring yourself. Also, plan ahead to ensure the equipment is ready when you are, as cancelling within 12 hours of delivery means you'll incur a cancellation fee. Extend your rental period if you need extra time so you won't get charged a late fee.
