How do I rent tools or trucks?
Stop by the Rental Center at your nearest Home Depot to see what trucks and tools are up for rent. If you'd like to be sure of what's in stock, call first to inquire about a tool or truck. You may also check out our truck rental or tool and equipment rental pages to see if what you need is offered at your local store. For more info on renting tools, read these Tool Rental FAQs, including equipment terms and conditions.
How long can I rent tools?
Tool rentals start at four hour time slots. It depends on how long you'd like to rent them. Small home improvement jobs may only require a rental that's a few hours long, and long-term jobs aren't a problem either. You've got options to rent tools by the week, day, or month, too. If you need it longer than what you signed up for, call your Rental Center to arrange an extension and avoid late fees.
When do I return the tools?
You can return the tools early if you complete your project faster than planned, but on-time works, too. As long as you return it by the deadline you were given when you rented it, you'll be good to go. Please clean off any mud or dirt from the tool as well. If you need it longer, give the rental center a call to see if you can extend your rental period.
Can I choose how long to rent a truck?
Rent a cargo van, box truck, or flatbed truck for as long as you need it. For short trips, 75 minutes might be enough time. Otherwise, consider renting it by the day or the week, depending on the length of your project. Remember to factor in the drive between the job site and the store, as you'll need to bring it back to the same store where you rented it. Penske moving truck rentals allow one-way rentals as well as round-trip options, and they have different terms. Be sure to read the terms and conditions before choosing a vehicle.
Do I need to refill the rental truck with gas?
Yes, please fill up the truck before you bring it back. Match the amount of gas that was in the tank when you received the rental. When you don't refill the rental vehicle, you'll have to pay a penalty known as the fuel replacement charge.
Can I rent a truck with only a driver's license?
No, you also need to be 21 or older, in addition to holding a valid driver's license. Depending on your state, you may require car insurance, as well as a credit card hold or a deposit, too. We don't accept cash for Home Depot truck rentals, so please bring your credit card. Penske moving truck rentals have different requirements.
