Our store diverts waste from landfills by accepting lead acid batteries, rechargeable batteries, plastic plant pots, and CFLs for recycling.
Our stores sent approximately 5.3M pounds of shredded paper for recycling in 2022. This has helped the planet by preserving over 63.5K trees. It kept over 16K trash bags of solid waste out of landfills, saved over 50M gallons of water, and conserved 7.8M kilowatt hours of electricity.
Since 2010, we have decreased electricity consumption by over 52% in our U.S. stores.
The Home Depot's core values are based on doing the right thing for our associates and customers, and this commitment extends beyond our stores to the environment, as well as our local communities. We are your partners in environmental sustainability. Read more about our eco actions.

Is it good to have a generator at home?
Having a generator means you're prepared year-round for whatever circumstances Mother Nature throws at you. Whether dealing with hurricanes, tornados, or strong winds, a portable generator lets you enjoy electricity when the elements knock it out. When searching generators for sale, don't forget that portable generators cost less and generate more electricity than inverter generators, but they're louder and heavier. Always run your generators outdoors, away from doors and windows, for safety purposes.
Why should I repair my roof before spring severe weather arrives?
Ready your home for spring temperature swings by repairing or replacing broken parts of your hardscaping and home. If water freezes in the crevices, you could be in for a real headache. Check brick and cinder block for cracks, and verify indoor ceiling tiles are free from missing pieces and water damage. On the outside of your home, examine roof shingles or metal roof panels for damage or rust that could let water leak into your home. Clean gutters to prevent ice dams if you're still prone to ice storms and snow. Lastly, replace chimney caps and vinyl siding if they're damaged.
What benefits do doorbell cameras have?
Enjoy privacy, safety, and peace of mind with a wired or wireless doorbell camera. No more peeking through the peephole or a nearby window when you can watch visitors in real time. Some doorbell cams even let you chat remotely via your phone, which is useful for delivery people or to scare off wannabe porch pirates. Most cameras integrate with your smart home hub or app to give you flexible accessibility. Choose to save video clips for future reference and worry less with more control.
