When you're beginning to dive into a big home improvement job, you might not have all the tools you need in your shed or garage. Don't let that stop you when you can stop by The Home Depot Tool Rental Center in Thousand Oaks.
Tool Rental
Our tool rental choices expand your toolbox and toolbelt with the precise tools you require to complete a DIY job. It's not necessary to get a specialized tool when you're rarely reaching for it. When you're searching for a new tool, try it out first before you select which to buy. Whatever your situation, we have the tools you're looking for.
Tame the Lawn and Greenery Early
Lighten the load with outdoor power equipment rentals and whip the yard into shape again. Neaten the yard with a rental lawn mower and leaf blower, the trees and hedges with a chainsaw, and the driveway with a rental pressure washer. Your outdoor oasis will be ready for new spring flowers before you know it.
Make Painting Easier with Paint Sprayers and Rental Scaffolding
Beautiful springtime days are a great time to tackle outdoor painting projects. Make surfaces look new again with a fresh coat of paint. Whether you need ladder rentals for painting fences, or scaffolding rentals for painting a house or shed, or a paint sprayer rental for professional coverage, we have what you need.
Rental Trucks
For transporting large tool rentals or anything else, we keep cargo vans as well as box trucks ready to rent — with availability varying by store. We also offer Penske moving trucks in sizes ranging from 12-feet to 26-feet at certain stores. You're sure to find the correct size truck rental for your project so you can keep your job on track. As your source for DIY jobs of all sizes, it's easy to make us your go-to source for transport and moving as well.
Large Equipment Rentals
Complete massive projects with the right professional power equipment. Our large equipment rentals give you the power you need to finish the job yourself. From the scissor lifts and boom lifts to give you a boost to the mini skid steers and mini excavators capable of hauling materials on outdoor job sites, we've got a surprising variety of equipment available. If a large equipment rental could help you, explore and see what we've got in stock.
Although we're mentioning popular truck, large equipment, and tool rentals, not everything is available at every rental center. If you've got a particular truck in mind, please contact your local rental center to see where you can pick it up.
How do I rent tools, trucks, or large equipment?
Stop by the Rental Center at your nearest Home Depot to see which trucks or tools you can rent. If you'd like confirmation before you drive there, call first to inquire about a truck, tool, or large equipment. You might also read our tool and equipment rental or truck rental pages to see if what you need is carried at your local store. For more info on renting large equipment or tools, read the Tool Rental FAQs, including terms and conditions for the equipment.
Can I rent a tool or large equipment for an hour?
Large equipment rentals and tool rentals start at four hour time slots. It depends on how long you'd like to rent them. Small home improvement projects may only require a rental that's a few hours long, and long-term projects can also be accommodated. You've got options to rent large equipment and tools by the month, week, or day, too. If you need it longer than your initial rental period, call the Rental Center for an extension and avoid late fees.
When do I return the tools?
You're welcome to return the tools early if you complete your project faster than planned, but on-time works, too. As long as you return it by the deadline you were given when you rented it, you'll be good to go. Please clean off any mud or dirt from the tool as well. If you need the tools longer, call your rental center to see if you can extend your rental period.
Can I rent a truck for a few hours?
Rent a box truck, cargo van, or pickup truck for as long as you need it. For short trips, 75 minutes could be plenty. Otherwise, consider renting it by the day or the week, depending on the length of your project. Remember to factor in the drive between the job site and the store, as you must bring it back to the same store you rented it from. Penske moving truck rentals allow one-way rentals as well as round-trip options, and they have different terms. Be sure to read the documentation before choosing a truck.
Do I need to refill the rental truck with gas?
Yes, please fill up the truck before you bring it back. Match the amount of gas that was in the tank when you received the rental. When you don't refill the vehicle, you'll be hit with a penalty known as the fuel replacement charge.
Can I rent large equipment or a truck with only a driver's license?
No, you also need to be 21 or older, in addition to holding a valid driver's license. Depending on your state, you may require car insurance, as well as a credit card hold or a deposit, too. Please bring your credit card for Home Depot truck rentals, as we don't accept cash. Penske moving truck rentals have different requirements, so read those if you plan to rent a Penske truck. Large equipment or select tools also require ID verification via CLEAR.
Do I need to go get my large equipment rental from the store?
Depending on your location, you can get large equipment delivered straight to your job site for an affordable rate — out in the field or at your own home. We'll need at least 24 hours notice so we can adequately prepare your rented equipment and you'll need to rent it for a full day. In places where delivery isn't available, speak to an associate for the ideal way to get your large equipment.
How do I avoid penalties and extra fees on rented large equipment?
Treat your rented large equipment as any other vehicle: Make sure it's parked legally and you obey traffic laws. Read the manual so you're using it correctly to avoid damaging the equipment or injuring yourself. Also, plan ahead to ensure the equipment is ready when you are. If you cancel within 12 hours of your scheduled delivery, you'll pay a cancellation fee. Make sure to return equipment by the deadline or extend the rental period to accommodate the extra hours or days you require.
