We used it for 5oz very heavy duty weed barrier and it worked great when coupled with 1.5" galvanized fender washers. It's been a couple years and no issues.

Is this good to anchor pressure treated lumber as garden edger on the ground? I don't have a drill bit to go completely through the wood. Is that a must? Thanks.

Yes, these galvanized spikes are used for landscape timbers. A drill bit will help but it is not a must.

I have a fence post that seems to have either broken or rotted a few inches below ground level. Since digging out the concrete footer and replacing the post in an existing fence would require a lot of work and time, I decided to try and re-enforce the current post instead. That's what I used these galvanized steel spikes for. I used a long 3/8" drill bit to drill three 11" deep holes at an angle starting a few inches above the ground. It took a good bit of pounding to get the nails in, especially that last inch, with the tips cutting beyond the hole and the nail heads biting into the wood, but the nails didn't bend, and the heads didn't deform. The post is sturdier now and if it lasts a couple of years or more, I will be happy. These spike nails did a great job, and I can think of some landscaping tasks I have that they would be well suited for, like pinning landscaping timbers to the ground or to each other.

Not the same quality as years ago.
These nails/spikes are not the same quality they were a few years ago. They look more like aluminum instead of galvanized steel. They are not smooth like the older ones were and they do corrode and bend. Home Depot also pushes them by the cartons vs individual ones that you can buy in their store. When doing big projects for my animal rescue in the past I have bought both the 10" and 8" by the box. The price used to be around $75 and now they are $99 for poorer quality. Unfortunately I have not been able to find a different brand than Grip Rite in these sizes.

Great for setting up forms for a 1-foot concrete runner for a chicken enclosure. As an extra precaution to prevent unwanted animals from digging under the runner, we used a 2-foot-wide run of 1/2" wire mesh. The wire mesh was laid on the ground and the one side of the forms was installed on top of the mesh (two or three inches of the mesh was inside the runner and covered with cement, while the remaining mesh protruded outside the runner at ground or subgrade level). That's where these spikes came in handy as an alternative to the traditional wooded stakes (can't hammer in a traditional wooden stake through 1/2" wire mesh to hold up the wooden forms used to encase the cement). In the pic, I had already covered the wire mesh outside the pour with dirt. Besides that, the spikes go into the ground much easier than a wooden stake. To keep the form from falling over, just use a spike on the inside and outside of the form. After you pour the cement, simply remove the inside stake before the cement hardens into concrete. I'll probably use spikes instead of wooden stakes for all my concrete forms.

We bought these to use in building raised beds. By using these spikes the beds can de disassembled over winter. The spikes are long enough to stick into the ground and add stability to the beds. Their length also makes it easier to remove them from the joints by driving them from the bottom after the beds are emptied.

Fine for my intended purpose of temporarily staking lumber to the ground. Had to select longest spikes from box in store as some were slightly shorter. Also, zinc plating is fine on some spikes and very irregular on others. However, they all seemed to be adequately coated. I was able to push the spikes into the ground with my boot as the ground was soft. Hammered a few in with a mallet anyway and the spikes seemed to hold up well. None bent. I tied a short length of rope around the head of each spike so that they could be removed easily.
