Questions & Answers

I thought the arrow was supposed to point toward the handle. Why is it the opposite in these photos?

Answer This Question

The blade is supposed to be installed with the teeth (and arrow on the blade) pointing in the direction of the forward cut, NOT the backward cut. That is why the arrow is pointing AWAY from the handle, NOT towards it.

Interesting that the answer above says it is made in China since in the product detail above on Home Depot it says specifically “Made in the USA.” Someone is incorrect.

                    Will this cut gutters?

                    Answer This Question

It should be able to cut gutters just fine. I’ve cut metal with the hacksaw blade and I’ve cut drywall with the jab saw. I find this saw to be very versatile.

                    Answer This Question

It can, but you'll be cutting for a while, and if you live in an apartment or condo, your neighbors might get annoyed. The fastest way to remove the pole would be to remove the fixtures at the top or bottom. Next fastest way would be to cut the pole with a vibrating multitool. Ironic, huh? Cheapest and easiest way would be to ask a carpenter to trade services.

This hack saw is a little heavy but holds tension well and is very durable. It has a metal frame but a plastic handle, still cuts great each time. Uses 12" saw blades which can be replaced when one is dull. Tensioner can be adjusted with screwdriver. Made in the USA

I thought the $25 price tag was steep for a hacksaw until I started to read what the 5-in-1 feature offered. I did go to the store to take a look and was met with surprised how beefy this hacksaw was. It's wide, not too heavy and VERY stiff. Changing the blade is a breeze just sliding the black cap underneath and loosening the tightening screw which was easily done. The adjustment also is easy as it becomes harder to twist and flip the black cover back and it's nice and tight. You get one 12" 24 tpi hacksaw blade plus a bonus 6 tpi Sawzall blade that's on top (taken off with the knob screw) which wasn't pictured on this site. It's very comfortable to use overall. In the past with the cheap hacksaw and pushing against the hard plastic it did start to hurt my hand a little. I needed something to cut the T-slot aluminum bar and this was perfect. There was no twisting of the blade or flex found in cheaper hacksaw. I feel cutting metal this type of hacksaw is a must unless you're wanting to go for bigger power tools which I had no use for. I would maybe purchase the three extra blades in different pitch so you don't have to guess what blades to use. For cutting soft aluminum like the T-slot, the 24 tpi that came with this saw wasn't hard at all.

You get what you pay for on this one!
This is a typical DeWalt tool - well-built and functional. It's 5 saws in 1 although I use some configurations more than others. Comes with a hack blade and reciprocal blade. I've used it to cut PVC pipes, conduit, and threaded bar and the high tension provides straight cuts. This saw is expensive relative to other saws, but when you factor in that it's a 5-in-1, it's competitively priced. It's a bit heavier than your average hack saw, but comes with a Lifetime Warranty. Hey DeWalt - we're not all geniuses, so please include instructions in the packaging. It took me a while to figure out how to transform the saw based on the pictures on the packaging. For those who don't want to figure it out on your own, type the model number into Youtube (the guys of "Tools In Action" were kind enough to provide video instructions with their review). The reason I'm giving this 4 stars out of 5 are: (1) the lack of instructions and (2) the screw for the tight access configuration (aka, pad saw) was so tight (a bit 'soft' too) that the head stripped when I was trying to loosen it. I will contact DeWalt for a new screw. Overall, a great saw.

                    Great ergonomics and versatility
The "5 in 1" concept is not a gimmick, it actually replaces at least 3 different hacksaws. Ergonomics are great, it has a thick, rubberized grip. The saw is easy to reconfigure.

                    Your actually buying four saws!
This is by far the best hacksaw I have ever owned. Transition between the different configurations are quick and easy. You can see 8n my pictures how many ways this say can be uses, and it even comes with a wood and metal blade so you can get started right away. The saw is a bit heavy, but it's solid and built well. There is no bending of the blade or saw while sawing like others that I have had, and the blades last a good while. I hands down recommend this saw!

Dewalt 5 in 1 hacksaw is great
This Dewalt hacksaw is great. I haven't had a chance to configure it in more than the main configuration, however the blade is tight, easy to cut a straight accurate cut. easy to change blades. Good value for the money.
