No these do not have any plywood in them. The ends with handles are made of solid pine.

Not width wise. We use them for vinyl records and have the crate standing length wise and they fit then.

If you stand it up long ways it will hold records, but on its side the record has to be at a slight angle to fit. And both ways the albums will hang over the edge about 2 inches so you may not want to lay them down in it.

It depends on how you orient them, they're strongest when the weight is being dispersed on the ends of the crates rather than the slats. The slats aren't very strong in terms of weight bearing.
