This stain was easy to apply and has good coverage. I have tried several other brands in the past but keep coming back to Behr. My only criticisms are that over time the orangish shade fades to brown and that the stain doesn’t last on horizontal surfaces - expect to restain after five years or so. On vertical surfaces the lifespan is much longer.

This stain really covers well. Got new pressure treated boards to replace 50-year-old boards on a deck that has never been stained. It is thick and creamy and fills in the knots and crack well

BE CAUTIOUS WHEN PICKING STAIN COLOR
Color looks NOTHING like the picture. It drives me crazy bc it doesn’t go with the house at all. I bought a 5 gallon container and had planned on using it for the deck and the fence, but there’s no way I can use this on the fence. Stain is not returnable, so I’m out a good amount on money. I use Behr for all of my interior painting, but I can’t say I’d recommend it for exterior jobs.

Hi Painter123, thank you for your review. I'm sorry the color turned out differently than you expected. The previous color of the wood will affect the final color of the stain since it's semi-transparent. To fix this, I recommend removing the stain and reapplying with a new color. Alternatively, you can cover it with a solid color stain. Our top priority is ensuring our customers are satisfied, and we are eager to help you get your project back on track. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us directly if you need any additional support. We look forward to hearing from you! -Christina Behr

                  Barely lasts a month
I “inherited” this on the deck of my house (previous owner even left an extra can behind) and it’s absolute junk. Yes, it’s easy to apply and covers well (it basically performs like a paint that sits on the surface of the wood) but it also peels, bubbles, and gets scratched if you even look at it sideways. The last attempt lasted slightly over a month before starting to peel. I’ve tried multiple prep methods (including sanding test spots down to bare wood) and applied in various temperatures, all while following application instructions for avoiding rain, hot sun, etc. None of that has made a difference. Two contractors have told me it would cost less to tear down the deck than to try and refinish it with a more durable semi-transparent stain. So there’s definitely a patio in my future!

Hi KelleyP, thanks for your review. I’m incredibly sorry to hear that our solid-color stain easily peels and bubbles. I assure you this isn’t how we expect our products to perform, so I understand your disappointment. To get your project back on track, I recommend removing the loose coating, sanding the edges smooth, cleaning with the All-In-One Wood Cleaner No. 63 (which helps enhance adhesion), and letting it dry. Once clean and dry, touch up or recoat. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. For further assistance, please reach out to us directly; we are always happy to help. -Angie Behr
Very easy to apply and the Padre Brown color looks great so far. I can’t wait to see the finished product once the deck is fully stained and dry.

Don’t recommend. Very blotchy even after 3 coats
I initially bought 2 gallons to cover 3 walls in an 8x14 space. I thought 2 gallons would be enough. Not so. It only covered half the space with only one coat and what was covered looked pockmarked. Horrible! I had to go to the expense of buying 2 more gallons to try and finish. It took 4 gallons to finish and I had to give it 3 coats to accomplish anything. I didn’t expect it to cover like paint. I was very disappointed with how blotchy the walls are. I don’t recommend using this brand of product.

From start to finish super easy!! The Home Depot staff member was quickly able to verify my color and stain type! This stain was strong enough to quickly and properly cover my fence as well as be poured into a “cheap” sprayer for easier application! The fence came out great!
