About This Product

The Rockwell 4-1/2" Compact Circular Saw is an effective and hassle-free replacement for a traditional circ saw. Just grab it and go when you need to make some quick rip or plunge cuts-no need to lug out the bulky full-size saw. Even though it has the functionality to handle all sorts of projects, this saw was made for 2" lumber, cutting 2x4s in a single pass. Its lightweight design (only 5 lbs) allows for better control of the tool so you can operate it with just one hand. And it makes overhead cutting much more of a possibility than with a full-size saw. The grip is comfortable to use for extended periods. And the smaller blade allows the 5-amp motor to spin it up to 3,500 rpm, achieving the speeds of much larger saws while putting less strain on the motor for more efficient energy usage and increased life of the tool. The easy to access depth adjustment lever allows for a maximum cutting depth of 1.7" at 90 degrees. While the bevel lever lets you make the most common angled cuts from 0-45 degrees, with a maximum cutting depth of 1.125" on those cuts. Again, this saw excels at 2x4s, but is also awesome on plywood, hardwood flooring, pegboard, dowels, molding and more. Comes with one 24T TCT blade, a parallel guide, vacuum adapter, and blade key.

    Can it cut a 2x4?
    ByMar 12, 2024

    Answer This Question

Hello Terri, Based on its approximately 1-3/4" depth of cut, yes, you could do that. However, because of the load this would place on a relatively small motor, we would recommend either a table saw or full-size circular saw to do the job. Thank you for choosing Rockwell!

Hi Scott! Thank you for your questions. The dimensions of the Rk3441k base is 7-5/16” length X 3-5/16” width and the body of the saw only extends about a ½” to the right side of the base. -DestyneeE

If I added a diamond blade, would this be able to cut out a square piece of asphalt so I can patch?

                    Answer This Question

Hello Mighty. I do not recommend using the Rockwell brand diamond blade for this task. The diamond blade works best on ceramic, stone tile, backer board, and cement. However, you can use another brand of the diamond blade with a hard bond and the same arbor size. --DestyneeE

Me, I wouldn’t use it, you would probably damage it. Take a look at HD’s On Line Listing for this Saw, under Specs...down and adjacent you will see the pdf for The a owner’s Manual. You can read it to better understand it. There is also the # for the Company, you might call them if in doubt.

Although hitting the lock button and the trigger together is a struggle, the light weight combine with the needed power made up for this irritation. Loved the ability to rip long mouldings without taking out a table saw. My new and favourite saw. Made cutting back siding, to replace windows a breeze.

                      The Tool for Cutting Plywood
This is my favorite power tool. I have been building speaker cabinets, and the Rockwell Compact Circular Saw is significantly easier to use with 1/2" and 3/4" plywood than is a full-size circular saw. The cuts are easy, precise, and with a reasonably fresh blade, surprisingly clean. I'm sure it works well on lumber, too, but especially if you do a lot of plywood and panel work, adding this tool to your shop is a no-brainer. Make yourself a zero-clearance cutting guide and go to town.

                        Great design, poor visibility
This saw is well-balanced and seems like a brilliant design. A few flaws, however, hamper the performance enough to merit (reluctantly) a two-star rating. The other reviews are accurate: the handle is thick and it is difficult to grasp around and press the safety button. I am a 5'4" female with somewhat small hands, and although I was able to do it, the awkwardness of the grasp decreased my dexterity with the saw. Annoying (does there really need to be a safety button?), but something you can get used to. The biggest design flaw, though, is the fact that the housing of the saw completely covers the view of the saw blade. You have to set, and re-set, and re-re-set the guide (cumbersome!!) to measure the distance of the cut left-to-right (rather than simply staying on your guide line). Even worse, without a view of the saw blade you have no precise way of knowing when the blade is about to make contact, or when you have reached the end of your guide line (pictures below). I am experienced with a circular saw and use my DeWalt effortlessly ... this Rockwell saw was a gift to myself because my boyfriend kept borrowing mine!! But after two cuts gone awry (askew and overshot), the design is a dealbreaker for me ... I have returned it. I will miss the lightweight versatility, but have resigned myself to another run-of-the-mill circular saw that works as intended.

                        Little saw with guts
Purchased this compact saw on 3/16/15 and put it to work on my hickory rustic furniture business. Cutting v cuts in hardwood hickory saplings for table legs and bathroom rustic style bathroom vanities. Cutting materials for one whole week with no problems, cuts right through furniture grade thick plywood with ease. Home Depot has the best price on both styles. I purchase this saw with my Discover card so I get one extra year on the warranty or replacement.
