Questions & Answers

I have a Pergo laminate floor and I have a few gaps (1/8'' or less) where a couple of the planks meet. I used a tiny amount of Roberts to fill in. I think it looks very good. See photo. But did I screw up using this due to expansion/contraction?

We bought Light Oak planks. Will this putty be light enough for use between planks? The edges are dark gray and I want to hide this with a light putty...

    Answer This Question

The Tan Putty should be light enough to achieve the desired result. Also, our putty colors may be mixed to achieve the desired color. You may consider mixing the Tan and the Light colors if the Tan is not light enough alone. Customer Care

When used to fill small gaps at the edge of vinyl planking in a kitchen, how long on average does it last?

          Answer This Question

The Roberts Putty is designed to fill nail holes, small gaps, imperfections, etc. in wood, laminate and vinyl and remains flexible to absorb the movement of the flooring without fracturing. When used to repair flooring planks, it typically lasts for several years if applied correctly and the repaired area is properly maintained; however, the exact lifespan can vary depending on the severity of the damage and the amount of foot traffic in the area. Also, you may stain it or apply a urethane coat after it fully cures if you wish. Customer Care

Is this material water proof? Is it considered a permanent fix? Once it cures is it permanent?

              Answer This Question

Unlikely. The very nature of these types of materials makes them difficult to adhere long-term.

Easy to use, you can use a silicone skiv tool you use to put a radius and smooth out grout or caulk in corners to clean up any mess and force into dent or gouge. I went over mine twice to ensure good fill. Next time I would mix and swirl the light and dark gray to match better, but it looks good.

                    Didn't hold up
If an area isn't getting lots of foot traffic, this product seems to work well, however I tried using it in a doorway, where I had to cut the length of the vinyl flooring plank going into another room. The product dries and lifts out of the seam. Moving on to try something else.

                      Miracle Worker!!!
I am astonished by this product!! I am beyond pleased with how beautifully and effortlessly this product repaired the damage to my flooring! We just had brand new flooring installed 3 weeks ago, and then came a heavy rain storm, which revealed some leaks in our home. The leaks caused some damage to our brand new floors, and I was devastated! Enter this little miracle worker!! in about five minutes. I was able to repair the minor damage to our flooring and it looks completely flawless!!! The color matches beautifully, and you would never be able to tell that there was ever damage to these floors!! I am so grateful, and beyond impressed!!!

                        Lifesaver for vinyl tile flooring
I was having trouble getting some vinyl tiles to butt up to each other as tightly as I would like, which was leaving some hairline gaps in some places. This putty in the light gray was a near perfect match for the seam edge on the tiles. It not only hides the gap but seals it off from water getting in there. I am totally pleased with this - just fantastic.

                          Thank you Roberts!
I had some bad gapping/breakage in between two luxury vinyl planks and thought I was gonna have to take them up. Really didn’t want to recut and refit that. I bought two tubes of the Roberts putty and mixed them together to try and get as close to the plank colors as possible. It really didn’t look like it was going to be that close when mixing. I just decided to go with what I had and fill in the cracks. After I filled it in I got rubbing alcohol and cleaned off the excess around the cracks. Worked like a charm!!

Absolute junk. It's much more expensive than wood putty or caulk. The only possible benefit is the number of colors it comes in if you don't want to try to stain match a wood repair. It seems good at first, but in a month's time it crumbles. It dries out to a tiny fraction of its original fill volume and becomes very brittle, pulling away from edges and cracking even in small applications. It could only possibly be useful in very fine cracks that you can't see from a distance anyway, and even then a second application in the future will be needed to fill what shrinks away. I tested it out then bought several tubes. Months later I regret that choice and have to re-do everything with a different product and spend time chipping away the loose debris from this stuff.

It is unfortunate this product did not meet your performance expectations. Roberts would like to offer some product information that can bring understanding to issues. Knead the tube thoroughly for 20 seconds before use. This conditions the putty. Apply putty and use a flat putty knife to work into damaged areas. After applying, simply remove excess putty with a cloth. - Bailey Customer Care QEP
