Questions & Answers

What size drill bit do you use for the anchor to go into brick?
ByApr 29, 2023
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

It would depend on the type of screw and if you are using an anchor. Standard sized screws fit fine, albeit a little difficult to get the bottom one in without an adapter due to the tight angle.

Yes it can, with the proper fasteners.

If the surface is flat yes but try to screw into wall studs

      By|May 8, 2022

I would think so. I screwed it to an outdoor post. You may want to make sure it is anchored, depending on the wall construction.

I have a screened in porch made of screens and heavy/thick aluminum. Can I screw this plant hanger into the aluminum posts?
              ByMar 4, 2021
              1 Answer |
              Answer This Question

Can you? Yes. Will it hold? That depends: IF the aluminum is really thick, that will help prevent the screws from pulling out IF you use the biggest sheet metal screws possible (biggest in diameter; the aluminum is probably hollow so length won't help) IF what you're hanging isn't too heavy. Then it should work. But proceed with caution! Good luck.

Is there a way to purchase just the small J hooks with the flat tops that come with this? I don't need the hanger, just the two hooks.

                Included screws are too weak
After a few months, one of the included screws snapped in half, causing the bracket and the planter it supported to come crashing down. If you want to avoid the same risk, consider buying Tapcon screws (~$5). They each support a few hundred pounds.

Vigoro’s 9” Black Iron Plant Bracket is an effective and inexpensive way to hang flower baskets, etc
It includes mounting hardware, feels sturdy, and had no problem with 10” potted geraniums (see pics), even when heavy from being watered. Vigoro includes screws and anchors and claims a capacity of 40 lbs. That would be a heavy planter! We installed several of these on our deck posts. The included screws are 1.5”. For added “holding power” I replaced the top screw with a #8 x 2” outdoor construction screw (the gold-colored screw in the picture - not included) which does not require drilling a pilot hole. Some reviews noted it’s difficult to access the screws because the bracket is in the way. Here’s a trick: Mark your location and drill pilot holes (if necessary). Push a screw through the hole in the back support and align it with the mark or pilot hole. Get the screw started, but don’t tighten. Repeat for the second screw. At this point the bracket can swing far enough out of the way to allow the use of a drill/driver (an extension helps). Tighten until the bracket can no longer sit at an angle. Use a screwdriver to finish. The top will require a short screwdriver. The bottom screw can be accessed through a small hole in the front support, using a long, thin screwdriver. Nice hangers, bad screws
The hanger looks great, but the screws provided are garbage. The upper most screw broke off three days after installing and hanging my planter.

Good product. My only concern is what you are hanging on the end of the bracket. I was hanging an insect repeller. With the anchors provided, it did not hold to the wall and I had to use a heavier duty anchor with larger screws. Other than that it is a good product. I do like the hooks provided and it looks good out back.

This is designed poorly. The photos make it seem like it should be hung one way, but the curls aren't bent nearly enough for the plants to hang securely. I recommend hanging it 'upside down' to prevent any hanging plants from falling off.... not sure why the designers of the product didn't test this before selling it.
