Limelight Hydrangea has huge, football-shaped flowers that open in an elegant celadon green that looks fresh and clean in summer's heat. We live in Zone 7 (Oklahoma specifically). Can Limelight Hardy Hydrangea survive in full sun spot from the morning until 2 PM?
Hi Tucau Thanks for asking! Panicle hydrangeas are the most sun tolerant. Limelight hardy hydrangeas is hardy in zones 3-9. It should do very well in your zone 7 garden with that amount of sun. This extremely durable, long-lived plant is easy to grow. It likes full sun in cold climates, afternoon shade in warmer ones, but it does require well-drained soils that do not remain soggy for any amount of time. When does it bloom completly in Michigan?

I was hoping to order the Limelight Hydrangeas (in July) and place them in a container in the front of my house which receives the northwest sun in zone 6a, then depending on the result transplant to the ground in the fall. Do you think that is wise?

It likes full sun in cold climates, and afternoon shade in warmer ones, but it does require well-drained soils that do not remain soggy for any amount of time. Temporary plantings in containers can work well to get roots established and transplant into the landscape to allow for more growth and development. Yes. I also kept mine in a pot. I actually left it in that pot all winter in 7A. You will be fine so long as you give it a couple weeks to root into the ground before the first hard freeze. You can probably plant these any time of year but to be safe just make sure the ground is workable. These plants are nearly indestructible. And within a couple years you will be thrilled with it in the ground with plenty of room. Mine is on its 3rd year and already six foot wide and tall with tons of blooms.
what type of soil to plant the flower in the ground with?
Just mix 50/50 garden soil and nature current soil , set root ball higher then ground level 1-2 inches, that's it, this one is easy plant, around 3rd year will enjoy it full bloom
