As indicated on the product package label and supporting product literature: "Surface, wood filler and air temperature should be above 40F. and For larger and deeper holes, apply thin layers to build up thick sections. Allow wood filler to dry before applying next layer. Allow to dry thoroughly before sanding: approximately 3 to 6 hours for shallow fills up to 1/8” and 36 hours for deeper fills 1/4” and over." DAP Plastic Wood (All Versions) is a "knife grade" formula (thick paste/putty texture), As this is a water based (acrylic latex) formula, providing that the material was still pliable, a small volume of water may be added to the wood filler until a smooth/even texture/consistency is achieved.
