About This Product

Made of 100% solid wood, Hardwood Reflections Butcher Block products can do it all! With a large assortment of species and sizes, you can add to the rustic feel of a farmhouse kitchen, warm a modern industrial office, or get creative making your own desk, workbench, shelving, end tables...the list goes on! For a truly custom look, these pieces can be cut, joined, machined, or stained to get the exact fit and style you need. A versatile and widely known species, Birch features a light color scheme and a generally uniform, even grain pattern. Each piece has an "A" side that is generally considered the top, with more uniform colors and fewer and smaller knots. The "B" side will be more rustic and is traditionally used as the bottom of the piece, however, either can be used to best match your preferences. No two pieces are identical and factors like lighting and type of finish, along with variations in grain pattern and natural color differences, will add to the unique look of your installation. Please note that while stain is optional, finishing is required! There are multiple options available including mineral oils and polyurethanes, but plan to apply your finish of choice within 48 hours of unwrapping the butcher block.

Highlights

  • Butcher block comes unfinished, allowing for customization using your preferred stain and sealant.
  • Each piece is unique, with slight variation in color or grain pattern.
  • Wood products are naturally antimicrobial.
  • Hardwood reflections offer many sizes and species.
  • May be used as a countertop, desktop, island, table, workbench or any other creative idea.
  • Each block has an "A" side with fewer imperfection and more color consistency, while the "B" (bottom) side has a more rustic look and color variation.

I use watco butcher block oil. Have had my butcher block for 5 years, still looks great.

Chuck: you have a few options. All of which require several coats and make sure they are on all sides and edges of the birch block. 1. I have kids that crawl over everything including my counters so I use a flooring-grade polyurethane. 2. Butcher Block Oil 3. Butcher Block Conditioner. All three will work. The poly will be the most maintenence free over the years.

John--I always use screws. Guessing you are attaching legs or fastening these tops to cabinets. I like to take the thickness of the wood--1-1/2" + whatever you are attaching to and leave 3/4" to make sure the screw does not accidently puncture the top of the wood. So if the cabinets are 1/2" and the top is 1-1/2" for a total thickness of 2" use a 1-1/4" wood screw.

I bought a piece of this butcher block to secure on top of my front loading washer and dryer for folding laundry and such. It was delivered without any issues, no cracks, splits or chips. Beautiful piece of wood, super heavy and high quality.

WARNING - Started warping after 2 years
WARNING - Prone to warping if used near sink and over a dishwasher. Used this product for my kitchen renovation three years ago. Got so many compliments and always took care of it. However - Over time it has become apparent that it is prone to warping. The front and rear 2” are still attached to the cabinet - the middle 16” does not make contact. My cabinets are not warped - they are solid steel. The corners of my new Home Depot steel sink have come undone and are no longer attached to the warped counter. Installation directions were followed properly by my contractor and all surfaces, including bottom, were appropriately finished. Two other smaller countertops in different kitchen areas are not warped. So it is clear this product is incompatible for use near dishwashers and sinks. Unfortunately, it’s too late to get my money back. I would advise you to not choose this product unless you change your countertop as frequently as your bedsheets.

I had an issue with the butcher block countertop and National Reflections resolved this issue. I was debating granite or Butcher block for the top of the kitchen island and after comparing the prices between the two I have they went with butcher block saving approximately $1500

This countertops are beautiful to utilize in many different spaces. I've used the hardwood reflections in both a laundry room application as well as kitchen application for clients. They can be cut to the size you need with a circular saw a fine tooth finish blade. You can do the sink cut outs with a plunge router, they are so versatile and functional. Make sure you treat them correctly and follow the instructions for the acclamation timeline to allow the wood to expand or contracting your space and acclimate to your temperature and humidity.

Had a grand idea of making really neat extension for my tablesaw that would have my router mounted in it. But unfortunately it's warped by the 16th in a 3-ft. It'll be returned and I'll just go through the trouble of building a extension.

John-warping us very unusual on such a small size of butcher block. Were all of the sides treated with a conditioner or sealant? HFAria
                      Would not use again
Used this twice… the butcher block was not long enough so the cabinet installer had to cut and glue/clamp the two pieces together to make the island. It didn’t match and the line where it was glued together looked dull compared to the full piece. The second property, the peninsula’s in the kitchen we purchased the butcher block for. The butcher block was not wide enough for the standard cabinet width. Instead of a lip extending over the cabinet it came short and doesn’t look right.

BROKEN - POOR PACKAGING - POOR RETURN SERVICE
Arrived broken in poor packaging. Not even fully boxed. Was advised UPS would come and pick up for a reurn if I left it outside my door. Watched UPS on my security camera footage come, walk right past the package, and leave a return label on my door instead of taking it as I was told they would. I live in a remote area, without a vehicle to fit the package and now have to find a way to transport it and drive 30 miles to UPS to return myself.

Gosh Brian that is to bad. It left our warehouse in mint condition--sounds like the UPS driver tried playing javelin with the backsplash. Our apologies. HFAria
These teak counters are lovely. The slab is quite dense and heavy. The color is beautiful. I ordered this small piece just to have a look, first hand. I was so impressed. I will be doing my kitchen counters in this teak. It's 1600 dollars for this teak vs going with granite at 3600. It is a luxury look at a medium price. Not as cheap as IKEA laminate...that would have been my next choice. This is solid. I will end up painting my shaker white stock cabinets a nice custom green color, pretty sure.

                          High Price, Poor Quality
I opted to buy the high price butcher block in the hopes the quality was better. After removing the packaging, I noticed this large indent with wood peeling back. The dark brown appears to be a filler, not solid wood.

Brian--not exactly what happened to your block. The dent sounds like a shipping mishap. The brown part may be a little different color in the wood. These are totally solid. We could sure send you another block--sounds like this experience was poor. HFAria
Durable & beautiful. Easy to stain/polyurethane, and easily installed. The perfect size for our drop down workbench. Looks fabulous as well as being functional.
