Questions & Answers

How would you cut a 22.5 degree cut? I can’t find any useful videos on using this.

Answer This Question

Hi Gino, thank you for posting your question. I do not believe you are able to make 22.5 degree cuts with this Miter Snip. I believe other brands do from what I found online. We do not wish to mislead anyone, and we hope you choose Crescent on your other projects.

You can sharpen these with any standard flat file.

I simply cannot find any video on the use of these. I?m cutting quarter round and I?m not sure if the one I?m using has a different name but it?s a3/4 quarter round on the face and on the back it has 3 flat sides. It?s hard to know how to line up my cut.

LouV, The half round side should be facing the jaw for the best cuts.

If it fits between the blade and the base, it should cut it all the way. Sounds like you just need to squeeze harder

          What Customers Say
Summarized by generative AI from text of customer reviews

Customers say the tool is convenient for cutting quarter round and small trim pieces, allowing for easy use without the need for a miter saw. Many appreciate its portability and the time it saves on projects. However, some users experienced issues with cutting thicker materials and noted that the blades can dull quickly, requiring significant hand strength for effective use. Overall, while the tool has its advantages, it may not meet the needs of all users, particularly for more demanding cutting tasks.

          Well made!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great for pvc trim and helped with many other projects! Clearly marked and correct angles make angled cuts easy! Well made and good quality. Durable and strong cuts. Fantastic for FRP trim! Just an overall great tool to have!

Essential part of my daily carry tool kit
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] When you just have one or a few pieces of shoe, quarter-round, cove/scotia or other small trim, why break out the miter saw, or risk using a circular saw? This cutter is quick, efficient and easy to use.

              Excellent time saving product
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this a few weeks ago to use to cut some vinyl . It works perfect, no more measuring angles and marking before cutting. I plan to also use this to put up some J-Channel on my shed. Would definitely recommend.

                Takes a Little Practice
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I thought this would be handier for trimming shoe moulding around the bathroom, but I found it difficult to master. It cuts pvc and mdf with ease because the blade is sharp and it creates a lot of leverage. I struggled because the material was smooth and would slide as I cut it, so they were all angled and wouldn’t meet cleanly.

                  nice tool
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I wanted this tool for trimming PVC wire molding. It cuts the PVC nicely. I did have a problem with it cracking the PVC since it was hollow. I thought of getting some PVC foam backing tubing or 1/4" dowel rod and sliding it inside the hollow molding to see it that prevented the cracking.

                    Does the job!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The tool arrived bent on one side, so you may say my review is one sided. LOL!! I used this on pine, oak, vinyl and mahogany trim. Cut vinyl like a hot knife through butter, snipped pine with ease, oak was not a problem, mahogany was difficult to cut(may need to sharpen blade). Cut all angles easily, does take caress to keep angles other than 45° true. Hand felt fatigued after 6 cuts. I recommend this for those who only do a few pieces of trim at a time.

                      almost perfect...
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Pro's: It came sharp right out of the package, not a razor's edge but it cut a plastic bottle cap no problem! It feels like it is durable, definitely not flimsy but somehow not heavy either, I would say the weight is right where it should be. The handle grips feel good and did not slide off even a bit after a whole days use. They lock closed, and it is not difficult to open or shut the locking lever with just the thumb. The blade can also be sharpened without affecting the use of the cutters, which I have not seen on other products. Overall it is very well done. The Con's: The Ruler on each edge, left and right, isn't exactly functional in that location. The ruler, I would suggest, should be on the plate like it is but instead of the edges it should be on each side of the blade. They could even do one side with Imperial measurements and the other side in Metric. I wanted this product to use when installing siding, J Channel in particular, and I saw its value as soon as I laid eyes on it. However, I realized its biggest flaw within 5 minutes of actually using it on the jobsite-there is no markings for cutting inside 45*s! Anybody who has actually installed siding professionally is going to recognize the asset that feature would be on this pair of snips. I will probably take a straight edge and scribe my own lines for those inside 45's using the outside 45* shoulders as a guide. Yes, it really makes that much of a difference!

                        Built to last
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very happy I was able to have these snips available in my shop. Came in handy for small wood pieces and didn’t ruin the cut. The grip feels good and provides support needed for tougher cuts. Only down side was that the blade wasn’t super sharp and didn’t line up perfectly in the line grove.

                          Efficient and Simple to Use
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used this tool on pine quarter-round trim for a flooring project I am doing, but I purchased an additional one foot piece of PVC quarter-round and MDF quarter-round to see how well these miter snips cut those materials. I normally use a miter box and hand saw to cut the trim. The pine was the hardest of the three to cut, not only on force required, but also positioning the material for the proper angle. It required a little more squeezing power to cut it, but not so much that I couldn't do it with one hand. On positioning, when I cut starting with the tapered end, it was a clean cut all the way through. On a few of the cuts where I started with the taller end, there was some chipping of the front corner, but not every time. It wasn't a large chunk that chipped off, but it did chip, so when cutting pine you would want to start with the tapered end whenever possible. The MDF was the easiest of the three to cut. It made a nice, easy, smooth cut, no matter which end I started with. There was no chipping on the front corner when I started from the taller end, and because it cut so easily, it required less force to hold the piece in place while I cut it. The PVC was also easy to cut, just not as easy as the MDF. It was easy to hold in place, and just like the MDF, cut clean no matter whether I started from the tall end or the tapered end. These snips are a good investment. They are much easier and quicker than the miter box method I was using, and are just as accurate. If I could change one thing, I would add the hanging loop that most Wiss snips have on the handle. I have to store this tool in a tool box, while I would prefer to hang them with my other snips.

                            Cuts well & ergonomic!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received these 8 ½” Wiss Molding Miter Snips to review. I tested these out making multiple cuts while installing MDF quarter round and they did well but the cuts were not perfect and had noticeable defects. I was able to make them better after some test cuts but the corners of the installation still had a gap that was larger than what I would have liked or expected. However, these miter snips really shined when cutting PVC trim! Every single cut of the PVC resulted in a straight cut that was smooth without any deviation making corner installations a breeze. I purposely used these exclusively for a house I was working on to test the longevity and I did not notice any inconsistencies in the quality of the cuts throughout the installation. By far, this is my best pair and sure beats having to pull out the miter saw to make a few simple cuts. I’d definitely recommend these especially if you’re doing repair jobs since you can make the cuts in the customers house without making a mess!
