Cotton flatweave rugs may be vacuumed on the lowest floor setting possible. Be sure the floor setting for your vacuum can be used without the beater bar.  The beater bar, even while disabled, should not make contact with the rug.  Do not use a floor setting attachment that does not have a wheeled, gliding function.  Do not use any attachment that drags over a loop pile or flat weave, as this will cause fraying. For all rug types -  if possible, gently shake your rug out prior to vacuuming, to release dust and debris.   This is called "dusting" your rug. We do not recommend home steam cleaning. For deep cleaning, we recommend reaching out to your local professional rug cleaners. Cotton material spot cleans fairly easily. Here is a helpful guide for maintaining your Cotton flatweave rug:  Clean spills immediately. Blot liquids with a dry absorbent white cloth or white paper towel. Regular vacuuming and the occasional gentle shake should keep your rug in ship-shape condition. Please do not machine wash, bleach or tumble dry. Professional rug cleaning recommended.  Flatweave rugs are quite thin and require a non-slip rug pad. For safety reasons, we recommend using a non-slip rug pad with any rug that does not already have a non-slip backing, unless you plan to keep the rug securely in place under heavy furniture. Children & pets may easily disturb the edges of the rug because it is thin, so you may also wish to secure the rug & pad to your floor with a compatible double sided carpet tape - if you foresee a tripping hazard.
