Is the red plastic cellophane around each bulb meant to be peeled off?

It is applied during packaging to protect the bulbs from scratching and physical damage during transport and is not intended to remain on the bulbs during operation. Please remove the protective film from each bulb before plugging in the string lights. Leaving the film on the bulbs during operation is not recommended as the heat generated during use could cause the film to shrink, stick, or potentially discolor the bulb surface. Once all film is removed, your S14 LED bulbs should emit the clear, warm 2200K amber glow they are designed to produce. The wiring is capable of handling 12 strings linked or 288W. Are the sockets capable of handling higher power bulbs? I'd like to replace the 12 bulbs with 10W LEDs and use this to light the inside of my garage. 12x10W is 120W so well below the 288W.

The manufacturer states a maximum bulb wattage for this string of lights is one watt led bulbs. Ten watt led bulbs will overload the wiring.
