I discoved after installing that the center does blink red. It just doesn't have the traditional round bubble LED like my old one did.

How difficult is it to install this battery powered smoke detector in place of a currently installed battery powered Kidd smoke detector?
Thank you for your question, you will need to use the mounting backet that comes with this unit. Please follow the installation guide for safety instructions.
The main problem you will run into is they decided to make the diameter smaller than a standard smoke detector for some unknown reason, so you will see a paint ring or fading.
