Questions & Answers

If the blocks are 8 X 8 how can a 4 X 6 block only be 31 inches X 47 inches?
ByAug 18, 2024
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Glass block sizes are referred to by nominal sizes according to industry standards - similar to lumber standards of referring to 1.5 in. x 3.5 in. lumber as 2x4. The nominal 8 in. x 8 in. glass block used in this window have actual dimensions of 7.75 in. x 7.75 in. So, the four by six configuration of nominal 8x8 glass blocks in this window give an actual finished dimension of 31 inches by 46.5 inches.

For a space 14.5" W x 48" H rough opening, what size of bricks should I use? 8x6? 6x6? what is the end-cap piece for? Should I allow extra space for the mortar or channel?
    ByJun 14, 2024
    1 Answer |
    Answer This Question

We typically recommend the rough opening be 0.5 in. - 2 in. larger than a glass block window that you plan on mortaring in place. For a 14.5 in. x 48 in. rough opening you could use Internet # 300502105 Model # 4814SIC. This glass block window is 13.5 in. x 46.5 in. and consists of six 6 in. x 8 in. x 3 in. and six 8 in. x 8 in. x 3 in. nominal glass blocks. Please refer to the video section & Product Details section PDFs for further details regarding glass block window installation. Feel free to give us a call if anything is unclear and you would like more clarification on what window or glass block configuration is appropriate for your opening. Thank You!

Can this be used for a freestanding application. It would have support horizontally as well as on one side vertically leaving the top and one side unsupported.
          ByMar 13, 2024
          1 Answer |
          Answer This Question

We normally do not recommend using a pre-assembled glass block window as a wall. Typically, we recommend building a glass block wall piece by piece using individual glass block and either mortar or silicone accessories due to the enhanced stability of these methods in open-sided projects.

Can you use this as a room divider instead of using drywall? I need to block off my office from living room.
            ByFeb 4, 2024
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

This window can be used as a room divider window as long as it is securely installed in a four-sided opening. We typically recommend installing the glass block piece by piece using mortar, silicone installation kit, or with perimeter channels if you want to build a free standing wall. It's generally more secure than using a pre-assembled glass block window as a free standing wall.

Yes, it matters If the window has weep holes. They need to be on the bottom, not the sides.

Do you have a FPA (Florida Product Approval) number for the glass block windows?

                  1 Answer |
                  Answer This Question

Hello Vicki, unfortunately these glass block windows do not have a FPA. Please take a look at installing glass block individually if you're interested in meeting Florida code requirements. If you'd like further information please give us a call and we'd be more than happy to help you figure it out, thank you!

The windows were as expected. They are nice. The assemblers could do a bit better job with the assembly adhesive but all in all they are very nice.

                    Great 1930's Bathroom Window Replacement
Our 1935 build home had the classic wooden window over the tub. This is a great replacement window for when the space is converted to a shower-tub combo. I was on the fence on the style, because these were so popular in the 80's but vinyl windows look so cheap I think this is the better choice. It's great how many sizes this window comes in, ours was a perfect fit. Pickup at the store was awful (took almost an hour for no reason) but otherwise recommend.

                      Good Window for the Price
Good window, but one of the seams was loose when it arrived. Now that it is mortared in it wont go anywhere and the seam was filled, but more frustrating than anything else hence the docked star.

I like that these now these windows have silicon between the panes so they are less likely to crack like my old cement glass block windows did.

My UPS man was in awe that this was available in a window. Mine was 70 lbs., after 4 days it was time for the install. Mid-top was not siliconed on one side and it tiled, and I freaked a bit. luckily I had clear silicone on hand and it went in great. My suggestion: Use nails to support, the wedges are kinda hard to remove. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

                        PERFECT!
Were remodeling our bathroom and hemmed and hawed as to whether we were gonna replace the window in the shower. Decided to go for it. Had a panick thinking it was two inches too big for our opening and thought we had to exchange it but once the installer got here we quickly realized it was actually the perfect size once he removed the old window frame. Were not done yet but its transformed the space. So so so happy i went with my gut and ordered this window. Even if it did delay our bathroom completion almost two weeks

This pre-fab glass block window is the perfect solution to remodel a walk-in shower with an old double-hung wood sash window above an old cast iron tub. This window size was close to the old window rough opening size. After tear out, I used PVC trim lumber (water proof) to frame in the finished opening to the window size plus 1/2-inch allowance (1/4 -inch all around the window perimeter). At 160 pounds (about the same as a 15.5-gallon keg of beer) it’s heavy, but I used 2-inch wide strap around the window and a wind-up hoist to lift it into position (with a little help from grandma). I think using a pre-fab glass block unit is much better than attempting to build a similar unit one block at a time, and probably costs less overall, plus you get perfect grout lines guaranteed.

Best addition to my basement window well
My wife and I have a 1940's house in old town Kennewick that have the original windows in the basement. We remodeled the master bedroom and I installed these glass block window. It not only made a great looking window with a a nice R factor, it let in outside light with keeping the private factor. I have 3 more windows to do and I will be ordering them. This work was done this month.
