The LEDs used in this lantern can be used for upwards of 50,000 hours or more. You shouldn't ever have to worry about changing them out! Thank you, Coast.
The off/on button is a bit tricky. it is the only thing I would change but once you get to turn on and off its great.
It sounds like you may have a defective item. You can exchange it with the retailer if it is within their return/exchange policy period or you can call us directly at 800.426.5858 and we will arrange to exchange the item for you.
Just return the product. Read my review for more info.
TAKE IT BACK! IT'S A PIECE OF JUNK!
If the batteries are in correctly (they alternate positive-negative-positive-negative with the flat negative side on/facing the spring) and the battery cover went on smoothly (it has a central shaft with guide fins so it would be hard to force it in wrong) and is closed securely (turn to lock in place), and the batteries are brand new (and not past their recommended expiration date on package), then does the push button switch on the top click when you push it? Well, if all seems to be correct, then you may have a defective item with a broken wire, switch or LED. Return it to the store and exchange it for another one, one the new one and put in your batteries ans see if that one works to save yourself another trip to the store would be my suggestion. Good luck.
