Will it cut tile
ByJun 25, 2024

Answer This Question

No, this carbide hole saw is designed for wood, nail-embedded wood, plastic, aluminum, hardie board, metal, cast iron and stainless steel. For tile, you would need a diamond hole saw.

is the pilot bit removable?

Answer This Question

This hole saw does not include a pilot bit. You'll need to purchase a compatible mandrel separately, and some mandrels include pilot bits.

Nope. Read the specifications - they say arbor NOT included, but the hole saw is compatable with Diablo's line of quick-release arbors (mandrels).

It should, I just used it to cut the center out of a metal snow blower rim. With the carbide teeth I did a great job with a little oil.

          Answer This Question

This hole saw includes the 6-inch bi-metal hole saw itself with a 2-3/8 inch cutting depth. It's compatible with Diablo's SnapLock Plus mandrel system, but the mandrel/arbor is *not* included and needs to be purchased separately. It does *not* include a pilot bit either.

          What Customers Say
Summarized by generative AI from text of customer reviews

Customers say the Diablo hole saw is a reliable tool that excels in cutting through wood and softer materials with ease, thanks to its sharp carbide teeth and quick-change mandrel system. However, some users experienced challenges when using it on metal, noting that the teeth can wear down quickly. Many appreciated the convenience of the quick-connect feature, although the need for a separate mandrel was a common point of confusion. Overall, while the product performs well for various applications, users recommend ensuring compatibility with existing tools before purchase.

          For wood only
I bought the 3” carbide tipped model to cut holes in lathe and plaster walls to blow in insulation. Unfortunately it only lasted 20 holes before the tips wore off. The carbide on the tips was very skimpy fresh out of the packaging. If the carbide tips were more substantial I think the tool would be worth buying. I bought this brand because I have used their carbide saws all blades and I love them, too bad their hole saw didn’t live up to the reputation.

            Saved days on a job
With some of the bad reviews I didn't have much faith in this bit doing what I needed but it ended up saving a lot of time and money. I was able to drill through 1-1/2 inches of high grade steel four times with one bit and could have kept going. The arbor was perfect for a magnetic drill which was critical. You cant do this by hand. After drilling the holes, I lost one tooth and chipped a few others but I could have drilled more which for the price Im extremely pleased.

Very disappointed with this drill bit!
First of I would say I’m a big Diablo fan have many of the products and never really had issues with them until now. This hole-saw made one cut through regular prime lumber and over half of the carbide teeth are gone. The package states 50x longer life in wood and metal?I would hate to see what this would look like if I did drill through metal with it! This is not a cheaply priced hole-saw but made cheaply. I’m going to try a Milwaukee brand and see if I can drill more than one hole!

                5” hole saw
Worked great - used it to cut holes for silverware containers in a drawer for a client. It cut through 1/2” hard maple without burning - used it in the drill press - I was impressed that it didn’t burn the wood given how slow I had to go with the drill press

                Dissapointing
I am a big fan of Diablo cutting tools and have had nothing but good things to say about their saw blades. These hole saws are not very well made however. I used their hole saw to notch some 1.5" aluminum pipe and one of the carbide teeth broke off on the first hole. After a few more pieces of pipe, 3-4 more carbide teeth snapped off completely or were seriously mangled. Considering all of this damage was done from a few cuts through soft aluminum, I can't even imagine attempting to use these on steel. For hole saws, stick to Milwaukee or Lenox.

                  Absolutely garbage do not buy
They fall apart after two weeks. I bought this mandrel December 20 of 2022 and I have had THREE of these mandrels literally explode as I am drilling in 30 days. Listen guys I am a Milwaukee die hard and everything I own is Milwaukee fuel M18. I do not skimp on tools. And I do whole house interior renovation so when I replace every door in a town house ei will drill the knob holes and striker hole in 4 or 5 doors in a day. Which isn't much but I do that twice and the mandrel falls apart

Nice...however you need to know you have to buy a shank too.
I liked it and it worked well...however should have a large warning to let you know you have to buy the quick release shank too. They make it say that the shank will work with all my other hole saws...but it doesn't. Still, after two trips to the hardware store - one to get the hole saw, and one to get the shank after I googled it and figured it out. The shank is nice...although a little more tricky than they lead you to believe. My first try I pinched the skin on my finger... Still, once you get used to it, it is a snap to use. I bought the shank in a kit for a 2 1/4" hole saw so have an blade I didn't need...however when the shank kit is 19 bux, and the 2 1/4' hole saw with the shank kit is also 19 bux...might as well have the additional hole saw.

Expect to buy multiple if using on hard metal
I only had to drill one 1" hole through 3/16" stainless steel. Product claims to be usable on SS, so I took a chance on it. I eventually got through it, but every single tooth was gone. I even used oil and slow speed. I got down to where half of the hole was through and the other half was thin enough that I used a separate 1" drill and punched it out. This bit was a goner. 3 stars because it actually drilled through the SS, but I had to spend 18 bucks for the bit and 20 bucks for the mandrel.

CUT 3.5" THICK STEEL FLIGHT DECK
These are stellar class hole saws. I was able to drill through 3.5" solid steel of a Aircraft carrier flight deck. i had to tig weld two hole saws together but it worked awesome. the teeth made it through 2 of these holes. if your getting 1 cut out these you need to slow cutting speed WAY down and lubricate the teeth.

Carbides broke off after 7 holes
As most are buying these for...I was expecting a bit that would last more than one project by buying the carbide ones that are more expensive. I drilled 7 in 3/16 mild steel with a low speed drill set at 250 rpm. I oiled the cuts the entire time as well
