Thanks for reaching out. These authentic wood shutters, depending on the size and style, are joined together one of two ways. The boards are conjoined with a corrugated nails and battens are glued/screwed on or, stainless steel brackets are screwed from the back side to join the boards together. Both manufacturing methods lead to a sturdy, long-lasting installation. Hope this helps!
Do these come with the screws/spikes to install? If not what do I use?

For functional hardware, there are lots of options but a few popular ones are: NR481BL, NR484BL, and NR254.
