Questions & Answers

I need a 20' beam. What shipping method is used (in other words - how does Ekena get a 20' long beam [made of polyurethane] shipped to a home undamaged?)?

Answer This Question

Thank you for your interest in our products! That is a great question. Orders that exceed 8' in length or that include an exceptionally high quantity of beams will likely need to be shipped via freight carrier. Picture a 53' box truck, that is the type of delivery vehicle that would be required for beams that large. Prior to shipping the beams, we take special care to box the beams in heavy duty cardboard that are fitted to the beams. This ensures there is very little wiggle room for the beams to slide around in transit. Overall, because of the effort we take to package our materials, most orders arrive in perfect condition. If something arrives damaged, please reach out to Home Depot right away to report the issue and we would work together to resolve the issue. Best of luck on your project!

I can see the ends aren't finished but are the very thin long edges finished with the same "stain"?
    ByAug 6, 2020

    Answer This Question

Thanks for reaching out. This beam is finished on two sides. The edge that typically installs on the wall and the edge that typically installs on the ceiling, are left unfinished as they are unseen. The beams are realistic, yet lightweight, thus installing hassle-free and truly making it easy for any level installer.

Can these be used outdoors to wrap porch posts?

        Answer This Question

Yes, these can be used for the exterior. However, the finish applied to them is an interior finish and we would highly recommend putting a high-grade exterior sealant on the beams (to protect the finish from the elements).

is this product rated for exterior use

            Answer This Question

Hello! These beams are made from the same material we use when we build our exterior crossheads and so the material itself is fine for exterior use. We do recommend applying a sealer to the finish though, as we send these out painted.

Can two L-Beams be joined to make a column with a 4x4 inside it?

              Answer This Question

Hello! They would not be able to do that out of the box and would require that you cut a 45 degree angle on each end first. We do offer a 4 sided box beam and you could request to have one panel sent loose so you can reassemble it. Stop by your local Home Depot and speak with a representative.

Can two of these combine fairly seamlessly to cover 4x4 porch post?
                ByAug 22, 2017
                1 Answer |
                Answer This Question

The 2-sided beams can be combined easily using a construction grade adhesive. However, the material is 1" thick so the 6" X 6" beam size (Model # BMRW2C0060X060X168ES) would be needed to cover the 4" X 4" post.

I bought this to cover some wires that ran along ceiling after AC was installed. The beam came with 3 internal, fixed, wedge supports which we had to remove before it could fit in place over the wires. You'll see in the photo above, these wedges are not shown. Be prepared to remove them, and be very creative in how you intend to mount this beam. They leave that part up to the imagination. That said, I love the look of it. Does everything I wanted, for half the price of a drywall soffit.
