Once installed and looking at the mantel head on, the relevant measurements will be the height, depth, and width of the mantel. The outside dimensions in this case are 6" High x 8" Deep x 48" Wide. The mantel is hollow on the interior and the wall thickness is approximately 1" per side. This means that the interior dimensions will be 4" High x 7" Deep x 46" Wide. You will see this reflected in the 'Product Overview' section of the product page. The interior dimensions will tell you the largest possible size that your blocking could be to fit inside of the mantel. Best of luck on your project!

That is, we would recommend fastening wood blocking to a stud, apply adhesive to the blocking, sleeve the mantel over the blocking, and screw into the blocking through the mantel. Because you would be screwing the blocking into tile, you would want to use drill bits designed for tile. Thank you for your interest in our products! Yes, this product can be stained. The mantel is made out of polyurethane which is a non-porous surface. Because of this, you cannot use a traditional wood stain as it will not be able to penetrate the surface. Instead, you would need to use a gel stain since these types of stains are specifically designed for non-porous surfaces. You can use virtually any color or brand so long as it is a gel stain. That was first thing I tried and couldn't do as well. Realized that manual that came with unit was for high end model that has test mode. Apparently this basic low-end unit doesn't have this feature.
